The gang known as Dragon Family or "DF", is a Vietnamese gang based in Northern Virginia, DC and Maryland. Consisting of about 20+ core members, the gang was formed during the early 1990's by a few individuals. During the early stages, profit from illicit activity was not a focal point for the gang. As time passed monetary gain became a issue of more importance between the members. The gang began to focus on small scale drug dealing, robberies, extortion, guarding gambling dens and sized other opportunities for illicit gain. The gang reached its height of power during the mid to late 1990's. Business was frequently conducted with Chinese criminal organizations operating in the area, and also with Vietnamese groups out of state which the gang developed ties with.

Since then, many members have been incarcerated, developed drug addictions or have drifted away from the gang. The gang has never enjoyed the pull it once possessed during the 1990's. It is safe to assume the gang was completely dismantled since 2002-2004. Few former members of the gang and inviduals associated with the gang still operate within the area, but not longer as a unified gang. No other Asian gang has surpassed the ruthlessness the Dragon Family Gang once commanded within the Northern Virginia, DC and Maryland area.
