Article: Flehmen response

I decided to choose this article for my evaluation, as it is a behaviour which I have observed many times while working with horses. I have read about this behaviour in horses in various books and articles before, but was curious to know more about how it is expressed in other animals.

Content

The content of the article is well-written and interesting. I found it to be easy to read with good grammar and spelling, as well as sections that flowed nicely. The content chosen to include in the article is relevant to the topic and educational. There was nothing included that I felt was distracting or unnecessary. The Lead is effective in briefly explaining what the article is about and encourages the viewer to continue reading. I thought that more information could have been added to the section covering the discovery of the behaviour. For example, I would have liked to learn more about how it was discovered and not just who it was described by. At the end of the article, a "similar responses" section is included, but contains very little information. I felt that this section needed to include more examples of behaviours similar to the flehmen response or it could have possibly been removed altogether, as it did not add much to the article.

Tone

The article was written with a neutral tone throughout the text. There were no biased opinions expressed in the article and it comes across as having an unbiased stance. The article effectively describes and gives examples of the behaviour without talking about any opinions or perspectives. I did not feel persuaded to believe one view or another.

Sources

The sources are well chosen and relevant to the article. When testing the source links, I found that they functioned properly. The sources seem to all be current and thorough in describing the behaviour. The reference list is extensive and well put together. A good variety of neutral sources was used to write this article and the text contains a sufficient amount of in-text citations.

Talk Page

Various users have commented on the talk page asking questions and suggesting edits. One user suggested that a section on the flehmen response in non-mammalians could be added, but that more references with research on the topic would need to be found first. Other users questioned if certain parts, such as the "similar responses" section, should have been included at all, as the article is about the particular response and not about other behaviours that are somewhat similar to it. The article is a part of the WikiProject Animals project and is rated C-Class in quality and low-importance.
