About

My name is Mai. I am a linguaphile and an undergraduate student of linguistics. I write the leftist political publication "The Overton Mirror". Additionally, I am working on producing the first ever full length novel in Viossa, titled "Suikso".

I speak Viossa, English, Spanish, and French. I am learning German and Mandarin.

Interests

I am interested in anything relating to language and linguistics. Particularly, I am interested in semantics, etymology, and name origins for both places or people. I am also interested in anything pertaining to contemporary or ancient civilisation and religion.

Philosophy, epistemology, and politics also interest me as I am curious about different approaches to the world and its nuances.

However, I enjoy knowledge for the sake of knowledge, so any lore I find is good lore.

The Religion Question

On the topic of my religion, as a practitioner of witchcraft, a question I am frequently asked is "do [I] really believe all that stuff?" The answer to this is I'm not sure. There is a part of myself that only wants to believe what can be explained with logic, there is also a part of me that has experienced that which cannot be explained with logic. I pursue religion because it brings me comfort in matters I feel I am powerless. So long as a person does not deny others comfort, opportunity, or autonomy, then I believe that a person is entitled to whatever helps them to achieve those.

My personal belief is that if the supernatural does exist it is merely science we do not understand, and therefore a part of the single natural universe. Therefore, I believe all gods and spirits are as likely to exist as unlikely until definitely proven otherwise, but that due to my own experiences I believe in some underlying deterministic force. Thus I identify interchangeably as pagan and pantheist. Just like with my politics, I have not found a particular religious label that I identify with, as my own practice is quite personal.
