Johnny Comotion

[edit]

Johnny Comotion (Born September 9, 1985) AKA Jonathan Gable, is an American Musician. Born in Los Angeles County, CA in 1985, he was the youngest child to 2 individuals who were born in the last years of WWII. Johnny has always had a love for the "Oldies But Goodies" Music Genre, and to this day continues to listen to that, amongst other genres as well.

Early Years

[edit]

Johnny lived in the Los Angeles area for most of his younger years. He recalls very little of this, for it is difficult to remember. In the Spring of 1990, his family moves to San Joaquin County's small dairy town of Escalon, CA. Johnny started school in August of 1990.

His love for music came on the frequent Saturday Mornings where his father would play the phonograph records or the audio cassette player they had. On occasion his father would even break out the 8-track cassette player.

Johnny loved to sing and dance to the music of the 50's and 60's and vowed to search for the one song he recalled as early as 3 years old, which had a distinct Falsetto and eerie organ sound to it. He did so at the age of 10, when on his way to a church meeting, a local diner in Escalon had Oldies Night, and the song he longed to find, Runaway by Del Shannon, was playing.

He took Shannon as his musical idol, and vowed he would learn how to play music, despite his fear of being the primary center of attention. (Called Social Phobia for laymens terms)

Johnny Gable and Music

[edit]

His earliest recollection of playing music came with his radioshack keyboard that he had since his early days in LA. He didn't take well to it untill he was about 7, teaching himself how to play the Demo song from the keyboard by ear.

With entry into school came many school plays in which he would sing with a group of kids, and he recalls how fun that was. In his elementary school, Dent Elementary, they teach 4th grade kids, about to go to the 5th grade, all the basics to music, and what instruments they can play. Johnny personally grew fond of the saxophone, but due to financial issues, he had to play any loner instrument they could get him. He took up the Clarinet.

The next 2 years were his hardest, as he tried to teach himself how to play the Clarinet without squeeking, it just became difficult to deal with the social aspect of things. He continued to get ridiculed and hazed and be called an outcast, even by his 6th grade music teacher, Mr. Robinson.

At the end of his 6th grade year, his last show was at the Escalon High School Field, where they played for the 8th grade graduation, and he then turned over his clarinet, never to play it again.

High School and the Birth of Simon Delsworth

[edit]

Once the torture of adolesence slowed for him, he was more affluent with the Del Shannon style. He was determined to not stop learning music, but he could only sing, as he owned no musical instruments anymore. Then he completely forgot how to read music. He went through his first 2 years of High School with very little "Growing Pains". Just before the end of his Sophomore year, he derived a moniker from all sorts of personal meanings, and created the name "Simon Delsworth".

In the summer of 2002, prior to the start of his Jr. Year, 16 Johnny finally got his prayers answered, an Acoustic Guitar finally came into his possession. He proudly took it everywhere with him, though had such a worriesome mother who always used the phrase "You take that out, you're gonna lose it." But he took it everywhere with him, to school, church, parks, buddy's houses. He was conjoined with the guitar for a good while. At this point in his life he was going through his Ritchie Valens phase, and taught himself how to play guitar, using an electronic keyboard he acquired and by ear. The first song he taught himself on guitar was none other than "La Bamba" and many more soon followed. His ability to read music was still on the fritz, but he learned the note names of guitar chords. The basic chords he learned fast were the G, A, C, D, and E leaving the B and F chords out for a while. "Those 2 chords really buddy f****d me, guess why they are the B and F."

By the time his Jr. Year came to an end, "Simon" decided it was time to tackle the chord book 1 by 1, and use a CAPO for those higher pitched songs. In his second semester, somewhere in March of 2004, he wrote the Song "I'm the only guy for you" which is still in his venues today. He finished high school, and wrote the song "In your Arms" which came to be his solid favorite.

Portland Blues

[edit]

Upon graduation, he decided he was sick of his father's rules, and moved in with his brother in Portland, OR. Still not sure where he stands in his musical adventures, he found no interest in the big city life. His brother soon became a tyrant and demanded him to get a job, or play on the streets for money, and pay him every penny. "I had no choice but to sneak around, for he would randomly appear on a jog or something during my 'shift' and quesiton my progress. Usually as early as 10, I would have somewhere in an uppance of $4, and that's on a good day. He demanded I make more money, which is kinda like saying smack the cat hard enough and it will stop being bad. Getting to McDonalds, or Walgreens for a snack was up to chance. One night I made nothing, and was too scared to even go back to the apartment. Yeah, he's always been this uptight, but Mom or Dad aren't here to save me this time."

It was the most hellacious 2 months of his life. He eventually put enough money together and demanded to go back to California. He was glad to be rid of his brother's stranglehold.

Birth of Johnny Comotion

[edit]

After returning to Escalon, he was reacquainted with his old friends. His buddy, Nick Sparks (Not the famous author) was jammin' with him one night, while sitting in the back yard, and contributing to delinquencies of minors, decided the name Simon Delsworth was wrong for this business. "In fact" Nick said,"I got a better name for a 50's-esque musician. JOHNNY COMOTION." Johnny loved it immediately and went by it since. Johnny's friend, Charlie, who was Nick's younger brother, had been hit by a car when he was 12 and was entitled to $6000 on his 18th birthday.

Charlie, Johnny and their friend, Seth Poovey all packed up their bags, and headed to Houston, TX where the three men were looking for something to stick and enjoy life on the bachelor side. Charlie went there for his new girlfriend he had met months before, but after a couple weeks, things didn't work out and Charlie, being the primary financial source, said that it was time to go home.

Johnny did as well and returned to his parents house, to find a very expensive electronice keyboard that Charlie had sold him, gone. The value at the time was $190 but his dad sold it at a yard sale for $1 dollar, claiming it didn't work, and that Johnny wasn't supposed to be coming home.

The Mature Years

[edit]

After the return from Houston, Johnny's father decided it was best to move since the new landlord wanted to raise rent by $350/ month than Johnny's father paid for 15 years. They move to a smaller, one bedroom house deep in Modesto, CA where Johnny continued to expand his musical influence. Johnny found work as a Security Guard for Securitas Security Services in Modesto, and held the job for almost a full year.

Upon the death of his uncle, Orville "Bud" Gable, Johnny had ran into his cousin, and longtime friend, Jesse Medlock. After a couple months of reaquainting, Jesse decided he had enough of California and wanted to go back to Oklahoma. Johnny reluctantly agreed to go, and left behind his job, girlfriend, and his Californian prosperity.

The trip to Oklahoma was only the start of Johnny's troubles, and it turned worse when his cousin started showing signs of ripping him off, and trying to control him. Johnny moved in with his 1st cousin, Debbie, who was Jesse's aunt. Johnny got a job at the local Chicken Plant on the night shift sanitation crew, which went from midnight to 7 AM, 6 to 7 days a week. Johnny made a little under $1500 month with this job, but was paying $800 for the motel room he lived at. Along with 2 new roommates, Johnny was disgusted by the Motel Manager, and they moved to an apartment just across the street, not changing his travel time to work, and only paying $375 for rent, $120 for electric, and food was plentiful with his roommates both collecting food stamps.

But following Christmas in 2006, his roommates decided to run off back to Michigan, leaving him with the unpaid cable and rent bills. Distraught, Johnny asked around his workplace to see if anyone was interested in moving in. By the time someone raised their hand, Johnny had met Sgt. Jeramy Szymanski, USMC Recruiter stationed at Fort Smith, AK.

Johnny shipped for recruit training on January 16, 2007.

Marine Corps

[edit]

On January 16, 2007, Johnny was sent to Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, CA for basic Marine Corps Recruit Training. He still aspired his musical preference, and having guitar withdrawls in Boot Camp, rather than his common nicotine withdrawls.

He went through Marine Combat Training in Camp Pendleton, CA and was shipped to his A-School training in Penacola, FL. He was studying to become an Aviation Electrician, and graduated A-School on February 6, 2008. He went to his C-School training aboard Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, NC and upon his graduation on May 22, 2008 he went to Marine Attack Training Squadron 203, still in Cherry Point, and fixed the AV8-B Harrier.

Through the Marine Corps struggles, Johnny still plays his guitar, and continues to write his music. In June, 2010 he wrote a song for a female Marine, who broke his heart, and titled it "Diamond of my life" based on the fact her last name was Diamond. The song went through several recordings before he found the sound he wanted with it. He added a forth song to his CD "This is Comotion" and expected it not to go far, titled "Her love is just not mine."

With the new song, he added the common Del Shannon falsetto to it, and after a couple recordings, he figured he needed a new approach as opposed to rockabilly. He added a heavy punk rock beat, and the punk vocal sound just naturally came with it.
