Cantor Judith Kahan Rowland is the has served as the Senior Cantor of Temple Shaaray Tefila in Manhattan, NY and Baltimore Hebrew Congregation, Baltimore, MD. She is married to Michael Rowland. They have two children, Rachel (b.1983) and Benjamin (b. 1986).

Cantor Judith Kahan Rowland (Judith Rose Kahan) was born in Lima, Ohio on March 3, 1956 to Rabbi Norman Kahan and Shirley Francis Kahan (nee Segal). She has an older sister, Dr. Sylvia Kahan and a younger brother, Eric Kahan.

Judi lived in Newburgh, NY from 1956 - 1968 when they moved to Roslyn, Long Island, NY.

Judi attended Wheatley High School in Old Westbury, NY, State University of NY at Binghamton and HUC-JIR and School of Sacred Music in New York (www.huc.edu). She was Invested as a Cantor in 1981, joining the ranks of only 11 women cantors at that time. In May, 2006 she was awarded a Doctor of Music Degree, Honoris Causa from HUC-JIR.

Cantor Rowland is a Past President of the American Conference of Cantors (www.accantors.org), having served as President for the terms 1995-1998 and 2000-2001. Her leadership in the Reform Movement is evident in her service to the Union for Reform Judaism (URJ) (www.urj.org) National Board, the URJ Commission on Worship, Music and Religious Living, the HUC School of Sacred Music Advisory Council and many other commissions and committees.

Previous congregations include Temple Isaiah, Forest Hills, NY; Temple Avodah, Oceanside, NY; Temple Beth El, Spring Valley, NY. In her many capacities as a cantor she has guidee her congregants through her music, her teaching and her pastoral care. She has overseen a high-level and meaningful Bar and Bat Mitzvah program, teaches classes in Judaica, Texts and Jewish Music to many arms of the Temple and overseen the worship life of her congregations.
