About Me

[edit]

Welcome to the user page of MarisMaxMarten – the Wikipedia username for Māris Caune, who writes and publishes under the pen name Max Marten. I am a South Australian-based writer, researcher, and creative professional with a background in theatre, true crime, cultural history, and community advocacy.

Writing and Research

[edit]

I am currently undertaking a PhD at Swinburne University, where I am developing a creative artefact titled State of Killers: A Narrative Rebirth of South Australia's Criminal Past. This reverse-chronological true crime project explores five major South Australian criminal cases from the 1960s to the 2010s, blending nonfiction analysis with narrative and multimedia storytelling. The project incorporates:

  • Practice-led research methodology
  • Creative nonfiction techniques
  • Reflexive narrative structure
  • SHORTS vignettes – modular, cross-media storytelling units

My work often integrates first-hand experience, social commentary, and detailed archival research, with a strong focus on justice, memory, and psychological insight.

Published and Ongoing Work

[edit]
  • State of Killers: True Crime Reimagined – a book-length project blending lived experience, forensic documentation, and cultural analysis.
  • BRAM – a historical-horror fiction manuscript rooted in WWII and Lovecraftian mythos.
  • Extensive translations and interpretive work in Latvian mythology, particularly relating to Dievturība.
  • Digital preservation and educational content relating to Baltic spiritual traditions.

Community and Advocacy

[edit]

In addition to writing, I have been deeply involved in regional arts and heritage projects. I played a key role in the restoration and adaptive reuse of the McLaren Vale War Memorial Hospital, combining creative tourism, historical commemoration, and sustainable business models. I’ve worked across sectors as an:

  • Event and festival safety consultant
  • Theatre and media educator
  • Security and crisis response supervisor
  • Celebrant and communicator in community rites

Projects and Interests

[edit]
  • Heritage Preservation: Advocacy for the protection of cultural and architectural heritage in South Australia.
  • Legal Reform: Monitoring and analysis of legislative changes (e.g. SA’s Local Government Act 1999 and Section 75G).
  • Creative Technology: Integrating AI, multimedia, and interactive formats into narrative structures.

Wikipedia Interests

[edit]

On Wikipedia, I focus on:

  • Expanding and improving pages related to South Australian criminal history
  • Baltic religion, folklore, and linguistic preservation
  • Historical crime writing and narrative nonfiction
  • Digital preservation of underrepresented cultural knowledge
