Asche & Spencer

[edit]

Asche and Spencer is an American music composition and production company based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Founded in 1990, the company is known for creating original music for advertising and film. Asche and Spencer gained national attention for composing the score to the Academy Award-winning film Monster’s Ball (2001) and has also contributed music to high-profile commercial campaigns, including those for Miller Lite and Subaru. As of 2021, the company is part of OwnersEdge, Inc. and operates as a 100% employee-owned business. [1]

History

[edit]

Asche and Spencer was established in 1990 by drummer Thad Spencer and keyboardist Mark Asche as a commercial music company focused on television and advertising. Mark Asche departed a few years later to pursue a solo music career. The company was incorporated on February 1, 1994.[2]

In 1997, Asche and Spencer expanded operations to the West Coast, opening a music production studio in Venice, California. During this period, the company composed music for Miller Lite’s surreal “Dick” advertising campaign, which gained a cult following and contributed to the brand’s resurgence.[3]

The company transitioned into film scoring in the early 2000s, beginning with the Marc Forster-directed Monster’s Ball. The score was noted for its subtle and ambient tone and was well received by critics. [4][5]

In 2021, Asche and Spencer was acquired by OwnersEdge, Inc., making it a 100% employee-owned company. [1]
