Ugbo Okpala

Ugbo Okpala[1][2] is a community in Ugbo in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State. Other sister community are Ugbonabor and Ngene Ugbo. Ugbo-Okpala (Ugbo Okpala) is made up of three major villages, namely, Umuebem, Uhugwu, Umuonaga (including Oyibo Ugbo).

Traditional Head

Ugbo Okpala features traditional rulers and chiefs. The head being an Igwe.

Religion in Ugbo Okpala

Ugbo has two primary religions: Native Religion and Christianity.

Native Religion: Ugbo-Okpala[3] is home to numerous deities and oracles, the most notable being Anu Ogulugu. This supreme deity resides on a hilltop in Umu-Ewa, the ancestral home of the Ewa communities. Anu Ogulugu is worshipped as the protector of Ugbo and all Ewa people.

Christianity: Christianity was introduced to Ugbo in 1917, following years of resistance against White Christian missionaries. Since then, it has grown significantly, with Anglican and Catholic denominations being the most prevalent.

Notable Churches: Several historic churches have been established in Ugbo Okpala, including:

- Christ Apostolic Church, Ugbo-Okpala

Common Festivals:

Ugbo Okpala celebrates Native as well as Christian festivals. Prominent native feasts include Iriji ohu (new yam festival) which is observed yearly; the famous Aju (Iwa ekwa-age grade celebration) which comes every three years in the month of August. The common Christian celebrations are the Christmas and Easter, marked every year for the birth of Jesus Christ and his ascension to heaven, respectively.

School

The town has One secondary school, Community Secondary School Ugbo-Okpala and One Primary School, community primary school Ugbo-Okpala. The secondary school is well equipped with computers and solar lights.

Hospitality

One of the top hospitality facilities in Ugbo Okpala is Toskana Bar and Restaurant known for its warmth reception and service. And other amazing centers are still being erected to serve the need of the people.
