 Australian guitarist and singer who commenced playing guitar in

1963. He was born in 1948 in the island state of Tasmania and left art college and the state at 18 years of age to pursue a professsional music career. Influenced initially by the folk movement in the early sixties and then the British rock scene,it was the blues music of the 1920's to '30's and the later electric blues of the '50's and '60's that had a profound effect on his music. He is widely known as a founder member of 'Chain', a band which had a number one record in Australia with 'Black 'n Blue'. This band is still performing and recording and have recently celebrated forty years since forming in 1968. Chain have annual awards named after them at the Australian Blues Festival held each year at Goulburn, New South Wales, Australia. Phil is still the electric guitarist in Chain, but also has a solo career as an acoustic performer. He has toured extensively throughout Australia, Ireland and parts of the UK. His recording career includes many solo CD's, and numerous Chain albums plus dozens of contributions to other artists recordings as a session player. He is a Fender Australia artist and uses Guild acoustic guitars.
