I was just having a look at the WikiProject's Quality Articles, and unfortunately had to move Nahuatl to § Formerly recognized content following a Featured article review. This just reinforced to me that, for such an important and universal topic area, there really aren't enough Good Articles and Featured Articles about languages. In § Languages and language families, there are now only three FAs; out of the 17 GAs, five are conlangs, and of those, two (Black Speech and Quenya) were created by Tolkien. This is by no means to say that these shouldn't be GAs—the more high-quality languages content the better!—but it seems disproportionate that nearly 12% of "Languages and language families" GAs are about languages created by one man. New editor FAQ
[edit]- Do you want to write a biographical article about someone else?
- If so, the 'Your first article' help page is a great place to start. That page provides a step-by-step guide to creating a draft article and submitting it for review, so that experienced editors can help you make sure it meets the requirements for new biographical articles. 'Biographies of living persons' (otherwise known as BLP) must be based on reliable sources only, because in the past there have been incidents where inaccurate BLP articles have caused harm and distress to the person the article is about (for example, the "Seigenthaler incident"). BLP articles also must not be used to promote or praise the person they are writing about, so there are also high standards for how notable a person must be in order to warrant an article about them. For these reasons, it's a good idea to go through the steps outlined in 'Your first article', to make sure that the article follows the rules.
- Do you want to write an article about yourself?
- If so, then this is strongly discouraged, due to Wikipedia's guidelines about autobiographical articles and conflict-of-interest editing. If you are notable enough that Wikipedia should have an article about you, you can request that one be created here, or you can follow the steps at 'Your first article' and submit a draft to be reviewed by an independent editor.
