Robert Field is an Engineer at Oracle Corporation (formerly Sun Microsystems). He was the Specification Lead for JSR-163 which defined the Java Virtual Machine Tool Interface (JVMTI) and java.lang.instrument. He lead the specification and development of these interfaces. Previously, he lead the creation of the Java Platform Debugger Architecture, was Specification Lead for JSR-45 (Debugging Support for Other Languages),invented doclets, and designed the doclet API (see Javadoc). He was Lead of the JavaFX Script compiler and runtime project. He was the primary engineer on the compiler and runtime for the Lambda project which added lambda expressions (see Lambda calculus) to the Java (programming language) in JDK8. He is currently designing and implementing a Read–eval–print loop for the Java Programming Language.
