About me

[edit]

Hi I'm RobertPlausible. I've been editing Wikipedia since June 2023. I am mainly focused on people and subjects relating to politics or elections, but I occasionally edit articles related to popular culture or music. I’m American and proud of it, but love and appreciate the world around me, and am always eager to learn about it. I do by best to stay unbiased when editing Wikipedia. I have created three articles. While I am mainly active on here, I also upload and edit files on Wikimedia Commons (the photo depository of Wikipedia) and occasionally contribute to articles on Wikiquote. My interests and hobbies are listed below.

Upcoming elections

[edit]
Presidential elections will be held in both Poland and South Korea within a few days of each other in early June.

I've always been really interested in politics and elections, both in the US and abroad. In the first half of 2023 I got interested in Taiwanese politics and the politics of Thailand. In the second half of 2023 I got interested in Indian and Canadian politics. In the second half of 2024 I got interested in Polish politics. I've always been interested in the politics of the UK and Japanese politics. I also have moderate interests in other countries whose politics I follow to varying degrees, such as France, Israel, and others.

Beliefs and politics

[edit]

I believe everyone is born with equal rights, regardless of gender, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation or otherwise. I think people should treat others how they would like to be treated: with respect. I think individuals and the government should respect everyone's right to privacy, so one could describe me as a social libertarian on these issues; simply put, some things are not the government's business. In this sense a small government is ideal, but a government should be competent and efficient when serving the people. The people's involvement in the formation of their governments via elections is crucial, so I believe participation in democracy is key to a stable and happy society. To increase participation in a liberal democracy individuals should have access to social mobility in a high-trust society. In a diverse nation like the United States or India, such involvement in democracy will create the need for toleration and respect for different ethnic or religious groups; this makes pluralism a necessary virtue. As such, the state should not have any ties to religion, as it should serve all the people regardless of their religious affiliation, if any. Tolerance, individual liberty, and mutual respect should be common place in free societies. There is no ideal system of government to carry out these principles, and certain systems are more stable or optimal depending on the country in which it is being practiced; some nations are better as republics, other as parliamentary democracies or constitutional monarchies.

Political parties

[edit]

Political parties in the United States have lead to unnecessary divisions within the country and create blind partisan loyalties (George Washington was right). Nevertheless, I understand their importance, but prefer a multi-party system rather than our two-party system. Here are some political parties I would hypothetically support/vote for, or tend to agree with-from outside the US (I identify as a moderate or independent on most issues). I also find myself agreeing with aspects of a Pirate Party. Also these preferences can fluctuate depending on party leaders and manifestos.

Historical figures

[edit]
I am of the opinion that Abraham Lincoln was the greatest President in the history of the United States.

Some historical figures I like. Unlike Presidents of the United States (my home country), I think these leaders can/are admired on a global basis rather than a primarily domestic one. I still have some American Presidents here though, but not all my favorites. I would consider Lincoln to be my favorite President.
