My article is about the basics of "The Lottery", credited as one of the most known and best short stories in American literature. It takes the reader from the plot, to the different themes expressed within the story. It is a short story that takes place in small town, that has a ritual every year known as "the lottery." In order to have a good harvest, every June 27, the small town has its children collect stones, later being used to stone someone to death. It mentions early that some up north have given up on this horrific ritual completely. One theme I noticed in this story, was that people don't think for themselves, or like the article says, follow traditions blindly. [1] The story wasn't always liked everywhere, even getting banned in the Union of South Africa and hate mail being sent to the author.
