I'm a computer engineer by profession, but my heart has always leaned toward literature and the arts. While I enjoy solving technical problems, I find equal joy in reading fiction and watching films. If someone supplied me with a steady stream of good movies, I could probably stay indoors for years without complaint!
The Journey from Reading to Editing
[edit]
Like many others, I first came to Wikipedia simply as a reader. Whether I was researching a topic, looking up the cast of a film, or just satisfying a random curiosity, Wikipedia was always there — free, fast, and full of information.
Over time, I realized just how much I was benefiting from the work of anonymous volunteers. That’s when it hit me: maybe it’s time to give something back. So I created an account and started contributing.
I edit because I believe knowledge should be:
- Accessible — for everyone, everywhere
- Accurate — based on reliable and verifiable sources
- Inclusive — representing a wide range of people, especially those often overlooked
For me, Wikipedia isn’t just a website. It’s a living, evolving project powered by a global community, and I’m proud to be a small part of that.
Identifying Subjects for Contribution
[edit]
I keep my eyes and ears open at all times. Whether I’m watching television, reading the newspaper, or browsing the web, I often come across individuals who catch my attention. When I find someone I think might meet Wikipedia’s notability criteria, I check if they already have an article. If not, I begin searching for reliable, independent sources.
TV shows, newspapers, and online magazines are rich sources of ideas for me. I enjoy exploring cultural and media-related subjects, particularly those connected to film and television. After watching a movie or drama, I often look into the people involved and check whether they have a Wikipedia presence. If they don't, and if I find sufficient coverage in reliable sources, I try to bridge that gap by creating an article.
Cinema is my greatest passion. I watch films across languages and genres, from South Asian classics to contemporary global cinema. Through this, I often come across individuals whose work is significant but not yet covered on Wikipedia. I enjoy learning about their contributions and creating articles when they meet notability standards.
I’m an avid reader of Bengali and English newspapers, literary journals, and cultural magazines. I believe reading widely is one of the best ways to stay informed about emerging topics, overlooked figures, and social trends; all of which can lead to valuable Wikipedia contributions.
I don’t claim to know everything. In fact, one of the reasons I love editing Wikipedia is that it constantly teaches me new things. From improving sourcing techniques to better understanding how policies evolve, I try to stay updated and open to feedback from the community.
