Letitia James mortgage fraud allegations
[edit]In April 2025, the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) referred James to the US Department of Justice for possible criminal prosecution, alleging that she misrepresented facts in three separate instances in order to gain government assistance and more favorable loan terms.[1] They allege that she misrepresented an investment property as her primary residence, the number of units in an investment property, and misrepresented her father as her husband.[1][2][3][4] James denied the allegations, calling them "baseless" retaliation by president Trump.[1] The FBI is currently investigating.[5] In May of 2025 a grand jury in the Eastern District of Virginia reportedly sent out subpoenas related to real estate transactions made by James[6]
