Graz's reputation

Graz may have been Austria's third or fourth most famous city for normal reasons (behind Vienna, Salzburg, and possibly Innsbruck. Graz's position has been succeed by Klagenfurt or Linz.) but given the magnitude of the tragedy the city's positive fame as a beautiful and historical city is done, and no this is not sad fame is not temporary. There may be important cities known for normal reasons similar to size or smaller than Graz that had similar tragedies or tragedies with similar or even greater death tolls like Erfurt, Charleston South Carolina, Katowice, but 1. Germany, USA, or Poland have had many tragedies (USA and Germany have had many mass shootings) with similar to greater death tolls while Austria has had nearly none. 2. A tragedy like the 2006 Katowice roof collapse despite killing far more people carries far smaller grief and fame as Graz is unfortunately distinct because of it being a school shooting and to make things worse it happened to only children. When these things happen in schools especially to children, it will attract both physically and distantly (so without going to Graz) far more media, pathologists/forensic staff, study of mass shootings (especially child killings) around the world, and dark tourism. For example the Sandy Hook shooting in Newtown, Connecticut in 2012 made the town forever best known for the tragedy as Newtown was not a noticeable city. While Graz is far more noticeable than Newtown the fact that it happened in an elementary school, is a country's deadliest shooting and first mass shooting, and is the second or third most deadly elementary school shooting/Europe's most deadly will give it the same reputation as Newtown, Connecticut, Parkland FL or Uvalde TX if not even more so.
