Obfuscated-end-user (block log • active blocks • global blocks • contribs • deleted contribs • filter log • creation log • change block settings • unblock • checkuser (log))
Request reason:
I'm appealing to get my account unblocked because as far as I know, I haven't done anything wrong. I never vandalized articles, posted something offensive, etc. I made this account so I can save articles for offline use in my phone, and hopefully do edits on articles, but I was blocked before I can edit some. I do think that my username has something to do with the block, and if it is, I would be happy if I could change it to something less "offensive." If there's anything I didn't mention/know that is a contributing factor to the block imposed on my account, please let me know. English is not my native language, I apologize if there are grammatical mistakes. Twatkinson (talk) 01:23, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
Accept reason:
I've renamed your account. I'll give you a new chance. Notification to Alexf. 331dot (talk) 08:46, 24 August 2024 (UTC)
You were blocked after you made two edits, one of which was to add "fuck" to your sandbox(now deleted) and you did not have any edits to the encyclopedia at all- this is called not being here to build an encyclopedia. This was many years ago, though, and if you now have edits you wish to make, I would be willing to remove the block. 331dot (talk) 09:09, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
- I'd suggest they should also pick a new username. --Yamla (talk) 10:19, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply. Right now, there really aren't any specific edits that I'm willing to make, and I would be glad if the block be removed, and I promise myself to not do something like that ever again. I was also trying to view what was on my Sandbox page earlier, and that I now know what it was, I thought that was just my younger self doing stupid things (I'm in my early 20s now). If that was the reason for the block, then I apologize.
I would like to ask some questions because I don't know where to put them exactly:
- Is there a way to check if a username is available to use, because I'm planning to change it if possible, to "obfuscated-end-user".
- If I do get unblocked, is not editing for a long time a bannable offense? Like, do I need to periodically edit articles in order to not be seen as "suspicious", if that makes sense. I mostly use Wikipedia for reading stuff, and I'm concerned that I might get blocked again for inactivity (not editing).
- Am I allowed to do very minor edits? For example: fixing grammatical errors, misspellings, etc. Are things like that discouraged here? Twatkinson (talk) 10:53, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
- You may run a potential username through Special:CentralAuth; if no results come up, the name is available(though it only detects exact matches, not close variations that may prevent a rename).
- Inactivity is not a blockable or bannable offense.(blocks and bans are different) You may make as many or as few edits as you wish.
- You are allowed to make whichever edits you feel are needed and improve this project. Even if you don't have a specific edit you want to make right now, what topic areas might you edit in? 331dot (talk) 22:11, 22 August 2024 (UTC)
Probably topics about my home country (places, culture, etc.), literature, and programming. Articles that fall under these are the ones I tend to read the most, but I'm open on other topics, maybe I'll find something new to do. Twatkinson (talk) 01:53, 24 August 2024 (UTC)
