Requesting Un-Deletion

Hello @Randykitty, Wikipedia is confusing to say the least in terms of language and structure, I am not a programmer or a Reddit contributor, but it's sort of an old school 'language' that I do not get to be honest. The reason I mention this is because prior to the day before yesterday I knew nothing of the rules of the terrain of Wiki, I am 100% green about it to be honest. That said, because of my previous page on the site I ranked higher, and was easier to locate on the web/Google. Removing my profile may likely cause some difficulty for potential collectors, other creatives, curators and the like to easily find a snippet of information about my long career. I honestly do not even know if it's OK to write this to you given all the language I've seen about sock/meat puppets - I've never know such, I'm literally a hard working artist whose visability matters - especially given that I am from a disenfranchised/minority group. This matters given how rampant cancel culture has been over the last decade. Though I've managed to retain respect and my reputation throughout, and as an independent artist.

In Portland, OR I had a gallery space called Soundvision which was named by The Oregonian in 2003 as one of the Top Ten Places in Portland that year, among many other high profile reviews. TJ Norris is the only artist on this list that has ever been removed to date, perhaps the editors here might compare and contrast the various level of notable accomplishments with several others who appear here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_artists_and_art_institutions_in_Portland,_Oregon

As the managing editor (I'm sorry, I do not know if that's the correct title) I am writing to ask if you would un-delete my Wiki page which has been active since the early 00's. I like to think of Wikipedia as not a glorified bio for which I am here to in any way manipulate - but moreso for scholars, curators and others in the arts to edit as my career grows in the public eye, in context with the art world at large around me. I hope this doesn't come off as 'boasting', rather this is just for context. I am trying to share as many links if its helpful.

One look at my CV would show that I am an accomplished independent, multidisciplinary artist who will be 60 years old this year, still very active. When living in Portland, OR I was asked to participate in the Portland Art Museum's series 'Art Talks' (there is a YouTube video, I could not post the link here). I have collaborated with countless artists, see here: https://www.discogs.com/artist/1513243-TJ-Norris?superFilter=Credits - as well as having works in the collections of Harvard University, El Museo de la Ciudad de México (Mexico City), Fuller Art Museum (Massachusetts), Amon Carter Museum (Ft Worth, TX), Nike and the biggest family art collection in Belgium, The Vanhaerents Collection (I was in the three-year running exhibition, and hardcover table book 'Man In The Mirror' https://vanhaerentsartcollection.com/previous-exhibitions/). I've been included in major exhibitions such as 'Of Other Places' curated by James Voorhies (Curator for the Bass Museum of Art): https://jamesvoorhies.com/projects/of-other-spaces-publication as well as being in the 10th Northwest Biennial at the Tacoma Art Museum curated by Rock Hushka. I curated an exhibition that included John_Waters (wiki) the famous filmmaker as well as Nayland_Blake (wiki). I've shown at museums and universities since 1990 and even have a brand-new project coming this year which is a 4-Channel Film Installation with 25 international sound collaborators called 'Elemental Studies' Published by Carpe Sonum Records: https://carpesonum.bandcamp.com/album/elemental-studies - the show will be presented in Chicago at TriTriangle (https://tritriangle.net/) and in the UK as well.

Filmwork: Some of my films have recently been included in film festivals: 'Blaze' (2024), part of the series 'Elemental Studies' is an Official Selection for the Frome International Climate Film Festival 2025 in Somerset, England (https://climatefilmfestival.co.uk/). 'Ocular (see-sick)' was screened as part of Streetside Cinema's Film Festival at Aperture Cinema (Winston-Salem, NC) and the short film is scored by Steve Brand. My photographis work was just published in the latest issue of Ranger Magazine - a Virginia-based magazine dedicated to experimental art, poetry, music and film. They selected seven works from my Cathartic Dissonance series. The print issue (ISSN: 2998-7210) will be available Spring 2025. I've put in the work and am due a little more respect for the thirty-five plus years I've put into my career. My photographic series 'Cathartic Dissonance' has just recently been selected as an official Nominee in the 2024 edition of the Cinematography & Photography Awards!

Some people have confused me and a younger artist Tameka Norris (who also goes by the name T.J. Dedeaux-Norris), though the confusion between us is odd, our art practices couldn't be more different. I work in film, photography and installation -- and she is a performance art and painter to my knowledge. Though we are both from marginalized communities. There were references to her in the discussion log, that's why I mention it.

I'm not very familiar with the ins/outs of Wikipedia to be honest, though I do know it is not supposed to look like a resume, though there are lots of references. If all I need to do to re-engage the page is to have Wiki editors add additional references, there are many, some not easily found on the web via an easy search on Google like articles in the Boston Globe and Art New England from the 1990s. I hope you might reconsider, and some lovely editors might do a deeper search. In closing I want to let you know I reached out to the other editors who helped make this decision, and tried to state my case for the purposefulness of the page to a general audience, etc. and I thank you. Out of curiosity for why the page was deleted I just followed the links, which led to this page. As a collector of recorded ephemera I often use Discogs to locate new releases. Program808 (talk) 00:41, 14 April 2025 (UTC)
  • TJ Norris sorry for the delay, I was held up in RL. I am not going to undelete this article, the consensus at the AfD was clear. As closer my task is evaluating the community consensus, not the validity or lack thereof of sources. If you feel that I interpreted the consensus wrongly or that relevant sources were not considered (either because they were missed or because they have become available since), you can go to WP:DRV. Removing a category, yet leaving the <!-- comment --> explaining why the category had been provided. I'm puzzled. In Zandvoort's era, English Studies covered (and AFAIK it still covers) the English language and its uses (particularly literary). Daniel M. Holland Medal

Hi, I notice that you reinstated your deletion and redirection of the Daniel M. Holland medal. I disagree with your reasoning and I worked hard to make the medal its own page.

Yes, it is true that a number of entries cite from the NTA website. Naturally, the reasons for why an awardee was given the medal are given on the NTA website. If you go to the Fields medal, the citations for why an awardee received an award are going to be from the International Mathematical Union.

I also see that you've marked my article under the "Wikipedia is not a directory" tag. I don't see where my article fits in terms of the "not a directory" categories. My article explains what the award is, and then provides a comprehensive list of the winners with reasons for why they won. It is no different than any of the following lists of award winners:
Turing Award
Fields Medal
Bösendorfer and Yamaha USASU International Piano Competition
Robert Schumann International Competition for Pianists and Singers

I'd like you to reconsider the reversion and consider the article for acceptance. I believe the subject is highly notable, as the Holland Medal is considered among the most prominent awards given in the field of taxation and public finance.

  • Hi, thanks for reaching out. While I appreciate your effort, I disagree that this is a "highly notable" award. There's ample space in the NTA article to explain what this award is about. Listing every recipient and why they got it is overkill. In addition, the descriptions of what is being recognized seem to border (or even cross that border) on WP:OR and/or WP:SYNTH, which is not admissible. For example, the very first one that I looked at states that Hoynes did "Deep research into every major government anti-poverty program in the United States". However, the reference given does not state that. As for those other awards that you mentioned, I have no time to look into those. Please see WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS.     I am reverting the redirection so I can improve the article. It is unfair to redirect the Holland Medal to the NTA simply simply because it is not admissible in its current form. If an additional page is not warranted, then I am moving the existing info to the NTA page after making improvements to the descriptions to conform to WP:OR and/or WP:SYNTH.

    This is only true on the grounds that it is not notable enough—I am curious what grounds you disagree that it is a "highly notable" award. Are you an economist or a tax professional? It is considered the most notable award in taxation and public economics. Hucal (talk) 19:33, 22 May 2025 (UTC)
  • If it is so distinguished, then it should be easy to find reliable sources independent of the subject. Meanwhile, to improve an article unimpeded, we have Draft space.     @Hucal (talk page watcher) So that the reader can get at least some info about the medal, I've created redirect Daniel M. Holland Medal and recreated Holland Medal (which I made yesterday, and whose deletion I was alerted to: any alternative name bolded in the lead needs a redirect). Obviously the refirect can be overridden if the article is moved back to mainspace, so that you are credited as starting it.
    But I've tried to find content about the medal but only found articles from recipients' alma mater or employer. Almost no relevant hits for "Holland medal(l)ist".
    It looks to me as if a list of the recipients by year with at most a very brief description, would fit usefully within National Tax Association#Awards. The fact that about half the recipients are blue links is encouraging. PamD 05:48, 23 May 2025 (UTC)

    I've fixed both the incoming redirects, removed the unnecessary {{redirect}} (it was directing people to a nonexistent Holland Medal (disambiguation)). But your references need much more information: the reference should show the reader what source the information has come from, and, in the case of a website, the date it was retrieved from there (because websites change). I've upgraded the first few, but please fix up the others. See Help:Referencing_for_beginners and other documentation for more advice.
    It looks as if you don't use the Visual Editor, so when you edit you should be able to use the Ref Toolbar which makes creating references vastly easier. The tutorial at Help:Introduction_to_referencing_with_Wiki_Markup/3 looks useful. Ref Toolbar isn't infallible (eg often adds extraneous stuff at the end of "title" which ought to be in "publisher"), but it's a great start! There's a lot to learn about editing Wikpedia but it's an interesting journey. Happy Editing! PamD 17:26, 23 May 2025 (UTC)
