Using citation templates, plus Worldcat & Google Scholar
[edit]Hi! I would like to suggest that you consider using citation templates. To learn more about these, please see WP:CITECONSENSUS, Wikipedia:Citation templates, & Wikipedia:Citing sources/Example edits for different methods.
Citation templates offer a consistent look & a rich way of linking to different sources. For example, I converted your references into {{cite journal}} format & added more information:
{{cite journal |last1=Van Allen |first1=James A. |authorlink1=James A. Van Allen |first2=Carl E. |last2=McIlwain |authorlink2=Carl E. McIlwain |first3=George H. |last3=Ludwig |authorlink3=George H. Ludwig |title=Satellite observations of electrons artificially injected into the geomagnetic field |journal=Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences |volume=45 |issue=8 |date=August 15, 1959 |pages=1152-1171 |url=http://www.pnas.org/content/45/8/1152.short |type=PDF |pmc=222697 |jstor=90137 |doi=10.1029/JZ064i008p00877 |id={{OCLC|4648000786|5151751735}} |accessdate=2017-06-06}}

- Van Allen, James A.; McIlwain, Carl E.; Ludwig, George H. (August 15, 1959). "Satellite observations of electrons artificially injected into the geomagnetic field". Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PDF). 45 (8): 1152–1171. doi:10.1029/JZ064i008p00877. JSTOR 90137. PMC 222697. OCLC 4648000786, 5151751735. Retrieved 2017-06-06.
You can do this either through editing the Wiki markup or through adding a reference via VisualEditor.
Two resources that you can use are worldcat"Satellite observations of electrons artificially injected into the geomagnetic field"
(keeping the double quotes) into either to see what each returns.
Thanks you for your edits, & happy editing!
