Von hier bis unendlich (English: From Here to Infinity) is the debut studio album by German pop singer Helene Fischer, produced and written by Jean Frankfurter. It was released on 2 February 2006 through Capitol Music, a division of EMI Music Germany. Von hier bis unendlich is primarily categorized under the schlager genre. The album also incorporates elements of pop, pop-rock, and euro-pop, blending traditional schlager sounds with contemporary pop influences to appeal to a broader audience. The albums' themes delve into a range of emotional and romantic themes of love, including longing, passion, heartbreak, and hope.

Upon release, the album received commercial success. The album debuted at number 78 on the German Album Charts (GfK), and peaked at No. 19 on the charts as well. Overall, the album lasted 71 weeks on the chart, and being certified 5× Gold by the Bundesverband Musikindustrie (BVMI) for selling 500,000 copies, and was also certified Platinum by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) for selling 50,000 copies. The album also saw success in other countries, such as Austria and Switzerland. In Austria, the album debuted at No. 73, reaching its peak position at number 16, and lasting 44 weeks on the album charts (Ö3 Austria). In Switzerland, the album debuted and peaked at No. 49, and lasted 5 weeks on the charts (Swiss Hitparade).

Four promotional singles were released from Helene Fischer’s debut album Von hier bis unendlich (2006), each contributing to her growing presence in the German music scene. "Feuer am Horizont," released in January 2006, did not chart but gained exposure through performances on popular German TV music shows. The title track, "Von hier bis unendlich," released in April 2006, similarly served as a strong thematic anchor for the album, though it also did not chart individually. "Und morgen früh küss ich dich wach," released in July 2006, became more notable. Although it initially did not chart, it later gained popularity, especially after a 2013 cover by Beatrice Egli, which helped the song chart and eventually earn a Gold certification in Germany in 2023. Another promotional single released in November 2006, "Im Reigen der Gefühle," also received television exposure but did not make a chart impact.

Background and composition

[edit]

Before the production of this album, she studied at a music and theater institution at Frankfurt, and played in a few musicals. Her first actual televised performance was in May 2005, performing a duet with fellow singer Florian Silbereisen.[1][2] She continued in her musical/theatrical studies until landing a recording contract with Capitol Music and EMI Music Germany, leading to the creation her debut studio album, "Von hier bis unendlich".[3][4] All songs were produced by Jean Frankenfurter, with lyrics written by Irma Holder and Jean as well.[5]

Critical reception

[edit]

RYM (Rate Your Music) listed Von hier bis unendlich at number 70 in their article of "Most Popular Schlager Albums of All Time".[6] The album is also listed on their "Top Schlager Albums of All Time" at number 117.[7] An AllMusic review from Andrew Leahey states, "Von hier bis unendlich became one of the most popular German debuts of the 2000s, establishing Helene Fischer as a powerful vocalist in the schlager tradition".[8]

Live performances

[edit]

Fischer performed her promotional singles on talk shows. She first performed her single "Feuer am Horizont" on many German musical shows such as Winterfest der Volksmusik, Komm doch mal vorbei, and Musik für Sie.[2] She then later performed the following singles on such shows as "Immer wieder sonntags", "Aktuelle Schaubude", "Schlager des Jahres", "Die Krone der Volksmusik (Schlagerchampions)", and "Die MDR Hitparade".[2]
