Hello. Project members are invited to participate in The World Destubathon. We're aiming to destub a lot of articles and also improve longer stale articles. It will be held from Monday June 16 - Sunday July 13. There is $3338 going into it, with $500 the top prize. If you are interested in winning some vouchers to help you buy books for future content by improving articles for your country or any other, or just see it as a good editathon opportunity to see a lot of articles improved for your project, sign up if interested.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:23, 31 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Problematic editor on Tamil articles

[edit]

After finding this [1] I looked at their contributions.Special:Contributions/MuhammadRaymen01

They wrote Saathanar. Some of their edits seem ok. But see their talk page. User talk:MuhammadRaymen01. No responses ever. Doug Weller talk 17:58, 31 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Doug Weller: I believe the Saathanar article is based on content/sources copied from Chithalai Chathanar. Given the existence of wikipedia article on Vannakkan Saathanar and Perunthalai Saathanar being mentioned in Nalli (ruler), I find the claims in the new article's lede plausible even though I haven't verified them myself yet and the article certainly needs much cleanup (reduced to a disambiguation page?). Pinging @Rasnaboy and Magentic Manifestations: who have worked on the related articles and may know more about this topic area.
Can't yet decide whether the editor's apparent communication, competence and (some) POV issues are worth a sanction; so taking a wait and watch approach for now. Abecedare (talk) 18:51, 31 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It’s a mixture of sources, a blog, two of our articles , different citation styles. And at least, as you say, one from Chithalai Chathanar. Doug Weller talk 19:03, 31 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
And this looks surprising impressive.[2]@Rasnaboy you know this article. Doug Weller talk 19:15, 31 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
While there were several individuals mentioned/attributed in the ancient Tamil literature with the name "Sathanar", there is no source to link its derivation/usage to "Sathaan" (which means a merchant or trader). Hence text from the lede might not be factually correct. Also, the article is poorly sourced, with no citation for etymology (no biblio provided for the quoted text), and the long list of individuals (in addition to using W pages). This should rather be a disambiguation page if there are separate pages for notable people with the surname unless the article is improved to incorporate sufficient standalone content with reliable sources. Notice

The article Potu Narsimha Reddy has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Tagged as Unreferenced and unimproved for over 15 years. Minor social reformer. I found one source in English that is a hagiography. Lacks significant coverage in reliable sources.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Notice

The article Salivanhana has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Tagged as Unreferenced and unimproved for over 15 and 1/2 years; tagged for notability for 7 months. No sources on Google scholar and literally one total hit on Google books that is a passing mention.
