Military career

[edit]

Ashraf was commissioned into the Frontier Force Regiment of the Pakistan Army. He rose through the ranks to become a lieutenant general and held various important positions during his service.

In 2019, he was appointed as the Corps Commander of XII Corps in Quetta, succeeding Lieutenant General Asim Saleem Bajwa. During his tenure, he was involved in operations related to internal security and counterinsurgency in Balochistan.[1]

In November 2020, Ashraf was transferred to command II Corps in Multan, replacing Lieutenant General Muhammad Naeem Ashraf. He served in this position until September 2021, when he was succeeded by Lieutenant General Chiragh Haider Baloch.[2]

Following his tenure as Corps Commander, Ashraf was appointed as the Director General of the Joint Staff Headquarters, where he was responsible for coordinating among the different branches of the armed forces.[3]

In November 2022, Ashraf retired from active service. At the time of his retirement, he was the senior-most lieutenant general in the Pakistan Army.[4]
