Fáilte! Welcome!
Some Wikipedians formed a project to better organise articles relevant to Gaelic games. This page and its subpages contain their suggestions; it is hoped that this project will help to focus the efforts of other Wikipedians.
If you have any questions about the project, please enquire on the talk page.
If you would like to help, see the tasks section below. Advice on sources is available.
For more information on WikiProjects, please see Wikipedia:WikiProjects and Wikipedia:WikiProject best practices.
Scope
[edit]This WikiProject aims to create, expand and improve listings relevant to the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) and its associated sports, i.e. Gaelic football, hurling, camogie, Gaelic handball and rounders. The scope of the project covers articles on these sports, their competitions, the county boards, club and county teams, players and other related matters.
Tasks
[edit]Are you a newcomer to Wikipedia or to this project? See here for beginner's tasks.
The All-Ireland SFC final (1 per year), as well as recent deaths of hurlers and Gaelic footballers (any time), are eligible for inclusion on the Main Page of Wikipedia! |
Ensure that Category:Scheduled Gaelic games competitions and its contents are updated, with the competition removed from the category if it is no longer scheduled.
Ensure that the competition navigation templates are updated:
- Promotion and relegation at Template:GAA National Leagues
- Teams per hurling tier at Template:Liam MacCarthy Cup / Template:Joe McDonagh Cup / Template:Christy Ring Cup / Template:Nicky Rackard Cup / Template:Lory Meagher Cup
- Template:County hurling team managers
If you are interested in photography, you can help by:
- Adding/searching for people who are in the requested images category.
- Cropping File:Paul Murphy (hurler) and Jonathan Glynn.jpg to create individual photos of the two.
- Cropping File:Séamus Callanan and Aidan Harte.jpg for Séamus Callanan and Aidan Harte
- Cropping File:2010 Super Hero Fun Run Launch - 4875537977.jpg for Eoin Cadogan
- Cropping File:Graham Canty.jpg for Graham Canty
- Cropping File:Niall Healy and Pádraic Maher.jpg for Pádraic Maher
- Cropping File:Paulbrady2.jpg for Paul Brady (handballer)
Louth–Meath Gaelic football rivalry, mentioned in the Meath team article, but needs sources: "During this period, Meath had a Leinster Senior Football Championship (SFC) rivalry with Louth: in the six editions of that competition held between 1948 and 1953 the teams met each year. 1950 and 1951 were both settled after a replay, while the 1949 match required three games to separate the sides." See also: 2010 Leinster Senior Football Championship final and 2025 Leinster Senior Football Championship#Final. Add to {{Gaelic football rivalries}}.
Wicklow's manager Jonathan O'Neill (hurler) played senior inter-county hurling until he was 43.
Longford's only National Football League title win is from 1965–66, with Mick Higgins as manager. Complete entries for the missing players.

Newcomer tasks
[edit]The following should not be too difficult to accomplish for newcomers to Wikipedia or to this project.
- Biography
- If you would like to begin a new biography, but are still unsure which are notable, you can help by creating the following missing football All Stars:
- Please do not forget to link at the relevant year(s) of List of All Stars Awards winners (football)#1970s, etc, as you subtract from this list. Also add the template from Category:All Stars Awards winners (football).
- Tom Heneghan (1979)
- Danny Murray (1979, 1980)
- Joe McGrath (Gaelic footballer) (1979)
- Ger Connellan (1980)
- Paddy Kennedy (Down Gaelic footballer) (1981)
- Mick Fitzgerald (Gaelic footballer) (1982)
- Liam Austin (1983)
- Ray McCarron (1986)
- Conor Deegan [A REDIRECT SINCE MARCH 2023; TRY ADDING A hatnote; SEE HIDDEN NOTE ATTACHED HERE FOR EXAMPLE]/Conor Deegan (Gaelic footballer) [IF, OR WHEN, THE MUSICIAN, OR ANOTHER PERSON WITH THIS NAME, EXISTS] (1991)
- Barry Breen (Gaelic footballer) (1991)
- Kevin O'Neill (Mayo Gaelic footballer) (1993)
- Miceal Magill (1994)
- Paul Higgins (Gaelic footballer) (1994)
- Gregory McCartan (1994)
- Kenneth Mortimer (Gaelic footballer) (1996, 1997)
- Davy Dalton (1997)
- Pat Fallon (Gaelic footballer) (1997)

- John Finn (Kildare Gaelic footballer) (1998)
- Johnny McGrath (Gaelic footballer) (2024)
- Dylan McHugh (2024)
- Craig Lennon (2024)
- Note that some of these players may have pages already created under a different title. If this is the case, the template for that year's All Stars (Template:XXXX All Stars) needs to be altered to reflect the correct article name. See here for details on the layout of a typical player biography.

Problems to solve
[edit]- Brendan O'Leary is described as playing for Wexford, but pictured playing for Kerry?
- {{Wexford NHL Team 1956}} has Jim Morrissey as number 7 and number 8. Is one of them supposed to be Mick? It is unclear which number should be changed.
- 1932 All-Ireland SFC final: "Kerry's Eamonn Fitzgerald missed the game as he was competing in the 1932 Summer Olympics". There is no mention in his biography of the athlete playing for Kerry. There are also red links to an Éamonn Fitzgerald (1930s Gaelic footballer) from the same period at {{Kerry Football Team 1930}}, {{Kerry Football Team 1931}}, {{Kerry NFL Football Team 1930}}, {{Kerry NFL Football Team 1931}}
- Is it "Whel e han" or Whel a han"? Simon moved from "a" to "e" in 2012. Brian moved from "e" to "a" in 2014 after a talk page request. Pad Joe has an "e" in its title and an "a" throughout the article.
- The template for London's only All-Ireland SHC title was deleted in January 2025.
- {{2023 Joe McDonagh Cup Team of the Year}} was deleted in March 2025 because it had no article link. It was established at the TfD for {{2024 Joe McDonagh Cup Team of the Year}} that an article link existed but that it had not been included on the template.

TedderBot browses new creations (including templates and categories) every couple of days and lists Gaelic games-related activity here. As she is not infallible, it is advised to regard the list as a guideline only. Tedderbot may miss some Gaelic games-related creations, or she may include creations not linked to Gaelic games. If Tedderbot is not working, a list of her articles is available here. Additionally, a list of newly created templates is available here.
