Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests

If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request technical help below. This is the correct method if you tried to move a page, but you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:..." or "The/This page could not be moved, for the following reason:..."
- Please make sure you really need technical assistance before making a request here. In particular, if the target page is a redirect back to the source page that has only one revision, you can usually move the page normally.
- To list a technical request: Uncontroversial technical requests subsection and insert the following code at the bottom of the list, filling in pages and reason:
This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page.
{{subst:RMassist|current page title|new title|reason=edit summary for the move}}
the - If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
- If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the "discuss" button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page.

[edit]Uncontroversial technical requests
[edit]- Lorens Chuno Udeigwe → Lawrence Udeigwe (move · discuss) – WP:COMMONNAME per sources cited, and the name under which it was deleted a month ago following AFD. 89.243.41.89 (talk) 16:43, 22 June 2025 (UTC) 89.243.41.89 (talk) 16:43, 22 June 2025 (UTC)
- May as well wait for an admin to decide on the CSD at this point - or we'll leave a redirect that will need to be handled as well, as there is currently no valid rationale to suppress it. Also, in the event the longer name was used to avoid somebody noticing that it was AFDd, the page being deleted at this title will help address that possibility in the future.ASUKITE 13:37, 23 June 2025 (UTC)

- Hexastylis arifolia → Asarum arifolium (currently a redirect back to Hexastylis arifolia) (move · discuss) – Per Kelley (1998), "Phylogenetic relationships in Asarum (Aristolochiaceae) based on morphology and ITS sequences", American Journal of Botany 85(10): 1454–67 (doi:10.2307/2446402), the genus Hexastylis is nested within Asarum and not treated as a separate genus. The current article content and history should be merged with Asarum arifolium. This requires a history merge. NShehan (talk) 12:28, 21 June 2025 (CT)
- Why does it require a history merge? jlwoodwa (talk) 22:24, 21 June 2025 (UTC)
- @NShehan if this requires a HISTMERGE, then you should request that first. It may make a mive unnecessary, and we certainly don't want to expand the mess by moving pages around. Toadspike [Talk] 07:11, 22 June 2025 (UTC)
- I believe they are just trying to do the correct thing after a similar thing happened with Draft:Asarum rhombiformis and Draft:Asarum_shuttleworthii. A move and and merge was what UtherSRG suggested and performed after I moved the old names to the new accepted names. KylieTastic (talk) 16:57, 22 June 2025 (UTC)
- 2025 Premier Volleyball League on Tour → 2025 Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference (currently a redirect instead to 2024–25 Premier Volleyball League season#Reinforced Conference) (move · discuss) – Redirect, page should be moved back to the "Reinforced Conference" article (planned for 4Q 2025) with "2025 Premier Volleyball League on Tour" (July–September 2025) created as a redirect of its own with its own fresh history which should start here Hariboneagle927 (talk) 09:54, 15 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Hariboneagle927, it looks like what you want to request is a {{History split}}. Realistically, you could probably just start the article over with a "Copied from Special:PermaLink/1295369782" edit summary or something like that, but a History Split will have to be done by an admin, up to you. Just add the details of what dates go to what article title. -2pou (talk) 21:26, 23 June 2025 (UTC)
- I have tagged the article with a history split. Not sure if I did it right. But I'm willing to wait. I don't think I can start over a new article (currently a redirect with its own shorter history) Hariboneagle927 (talk) 04:05, 24 June 2025 (UTC)

- Michelle Reis → Michele Reis (currently a redirect back to Michelle Reis) (move · discuss) – Her name is frequently misspelled in various sources, but this spelling is the one she uses and tends to be the one she's credited under, it's also the name used on Chinese movie databases like Douban. Tremoloandwine (talk) 01:09, 22 June 2025 (UTC)
- Intangible Cultural Heritage of Ukraine → List of Intangible Cultural Heritage elements in Ukraine (currently a redirect back to Intangible Cultural Heritage of Ukraine) (move · discuss) – Consistency with similar lists Shwabb1 ⟨taco⟩ 17:43, 22 June 2025 (UTC)
- Marquis of Llevant de Mallorca → Marquess of Llevant de Mallorca (currently a redirect back to Marquis of Llevant de Mallorca) (move · discuss) – To homogenize the title of the article with other similar articles. TheRichic

- Rear-view mirror → Rearview mirror (currently a redirect back to Rear-view mirror) (move · discuss) – Google analytics suggest that rearview is nearly two orders of magnitude more common in usage than rear-view Blillian (talk) 20:42, 23 June 2025 (UTC)
- Town and country planning in the United Kingdom → Town and country planning (currently a redirect back to Town and country planning in the United Kingdom) (move · discuss) – To make the article title more concise. The term "town and country planning" is particular to the UK. A hatnote can be added after the move to redirect users looking for Spatial planning or Urban planning. Jèrriais janne (talk) 20:57, 23 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Jèrriais janne, does having a page for the subtopic Town and country planning in Wales affect this request? -2pou (talk) 21:30, 23 June 2025 (UTC)
- Cuck (album) → In a Perfect World (Kanye West album) (currently a redirect back to Cuck (album)) (move · discuss) – appears to be the new title for the album. Wackistan (talk) 21:28, 23 June 2025 (UTC)
- US intervention in the Syrian civil war → United States intervention in the Syrian civil war (currently a redirect back to US intervention in the Syrian civil war) (move · discuss) – Convention established by innumerable other articles is that United States is fully spelled out. ~ Pbritti (talk) 01:45, 24 June 2025 (UTC)
- Chemmani mass graves investigation → Chemmani mass graves (currently a redirect back to Chemmani mass graves investigation) (move · discuss) – Its lead archaeologist, Raj Somadeva, has stated "it can be identified as a mass grave".[1] Also to be consistent with other Sri Lankan mass grave articles: Duraiappa stadium mass grave, Sooriyakanda mass grave, Matale mass grave and Mannar mass grave. Petextrodon (talk) 04:31, 24 June 2025 (UTC)
- Double Fifth → Double Fifth Festival (currently a redirect instead to Dragon Boat Festival) (move · discuss) – I did not realize article for other simialr days were named "Double Ninth Festival" and "Double Third Festival" were created with "Festival" as part of article title when I turn redirect page into disambiguation article, the move would correct it. Requests to revert undiscussed moves
[edit]- List of AFL championship game broadcasters → List of AFL Championship Game broadcasters (currently a redirect back to List of AFL championship game broadcasters) (move · discuss) – AFL Championship Game is uppercased throughout the site, so this good faith move seems the outlier. Randy Kryn (talk) 02:46, 24 June 2025 (UTC)
- Ghulam Hamdani Mas'hafi → Mashafi (currently a redirect back to Ghulam Hamdani Mas'hafi) (move · discuss) – Please revert undiscussed move by AdillAdell. His real name was Ghulam Ali Hamdani and he was better known by the pen name Mashafi, as with other poets like Ghalib, Hafez, Rumi etc. These people are better known by their pen names than full name. FujaFula (talk) 23:07, 22 June 2025 (UTC)
- @FujaFula although that was the original title, it might be ideal to discuss this, as it has been moved several times by several users - there appears to be disagreement over whether to use the apostrophe in the name as well. ASUKITE 14:08, 23 June 2025 (UTC)
- 1949 Hait earthquake → 1949 Khait earthquake (currently a redirect back to 1949 Hait earthquake) (move · discuss) – undiscussed move Dora the Axe-plorer (explore) 10:46, 23 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Dora the Axe-plorer, you moved it there yourself, then reverted yourself, stating you wanted to take it here. Did a discussion occur somewhere that I can't find about this? This isn't the place to settle disputes, if that's the case, even anticipated ones. Your moving it back indicates possible controversy and that this might need to be discussed. I will still revert the move, of course - just want to make sure I'm not missing something here.ASUKITE 14:22, 23 June 2025 (UTC)

- Delaware Valley → Greater Philadelphia (currently a redirect back to Delaware Valley) (move · discuss) – Consensus in Talk:Delaware Valley#Philadelphia metropolitan area has determined that "Delaware Valley" is mostly a term used only in media sources, while "Greater Philadelphia" is a term that is more common, recognizable, and follows standardization with other cities (e.g. Greater Boston, Greater Los Angeles, etc.) Red0ctober22 (talk) 23:35, 20 June 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose speedy move Instead of a low attendence discussion, you could have just opened a proper move request. The low attendence discussion should indicate that a full move request can be opened, instead of a speedy one. Only 2 users participated in that discussion, doens't seem like a durable consensus. -- 65.93.183.249 (talk) 04:43, 22 June 2025 (UTC)
- But we are a media source and there's no expectation that regions are "standardized". Regions objectively are referred to in wildly different ways, why would we expect standardization here? "Delaware Valley" is a common term. SnowFire (talk) 14:40, 23 June 2025 (UTC)
- Video games and Linux → Linux gaming (currently a redirect back to Video games and Linux) (move · discuss) – To maintain consistency with Mac gaming. CoolingGibbon (talk) 18:00, 22 June 2025 (UTC)
- @CoolingGibbon That page has been named “Linux gaming” a few different times, with the most recent being in 2023. Since the page has been moved several times, mostly undiscussed, a RM should be done to determine the consensus for the change. cyberdog958Talk 18:35, 22 June 2025 (UTC)
- Trinity University → Trinity University (disambiguation) (currently a redirect back to Trinity University) (move · discuss) – Trinity University (Texas) is a direct name match, and the primary topic for this disambiguation. This page should be moved to the current disambiguation page, which requires the disambiguation page to be moved. Forrest Keller (talk) 21:46, 22 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Forrest Keller This was previously proposed and not carried out, so a full RM discussion would be required to overturn that. jlwoodwa (talk) 23:21, 22 June 2025 (UTC)
- It seems that the user that originally moved the article, @Timwi is no longer active. Where should we discuss this move? I haven't seen any arguments against it. Forrest Keller (talk) 16:43, 23 June 2025 (UTC)
- Apologies, I missed the section where the argument on page views was made. Updated figures from last month:
- - Trinity University (Texas): 7,546
- - Trinity University of Asia: 1,968
- - Trinity University College: 339
- Given that Trinity University of Asia is disambiguated in name from Trinity University, and has about a quarter the number of page views as Trinity University, it seems to make more sense to make Trinity University (Texas) the primary topic for this term, especially given it is the only page which has an exact name match in the disambiguation page. Forrest Keller (talk) 16:53, 23 June 2025 (UTC)
- That is the kind of argument that should be made in a full WP:RM discussion, not here. jlwoodwa (talk) 01:06, 24 June 2025 (UTC)

- Cagayan Valley Rising Suns (volleyball) → Cagayan Valley Rising Suns (move · discuss) – "Cagayan Valley Rising Suns" should be enough to distinguish itself from the Cagayan Valley Lady Rising Suns women's volleyball team and Cagayan Rising Suns men's basketball team, similar to NU Bulldogs volleyball and NU Lady Bulldogs volleyball for the former, and Oklahoma City Thunder and Oklahoma Thunder for the latter. MarcusAbacus (talk) 10:17, 23 June 2025 (UTC)
- @MarcusAbacus, right or wrong, the target you suggest has since been turned into a disambiguation page, which suggests this probably could been seen as a WP:PCM. You're free to open a move discussion by clicking the "move" link above, though. -2pou (talk) 21:36, 23 June 2025 (UTC)
- Okay. I think making it a disambiguation page might be the better play here, at least for the time being. I’ll look into creating a discussion at some point. MarcusAbacus (talk) 00:07, 24 June 2025 (UTC)
