When I made a rewrite proposal at the ongoing discussion for Talk:Sinners (2025 film)#Edit War Dispute, an editor (Buh6173) said I really need to actually point out the changes [in the plot summary] and argue in favor of them
. Do you guys think this is considered acceptable? Thanks, Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 21:02, 16 May 2025 (UTC)
- Yes, without question. You should argue the merits of your preferences for specific content decisions if you want to convince others to support the consensus you want. In the case of word choice in a plot summary, it seems perfectly reasonable to break it down in the way that Buh6173 has done. They seem to have made fair arguments for their preferences so I would recommend engaging them in discussion and telling them on which points you agree and/or disagree. silviaASH (inquire within) 21:22, 16 May 2025 (UTC)
- I just wanted to make sure, that's all. I thought such word choices were compared via edit differences. Like I said, I'm still discussing these changes with the user(s) on the talk page, as myself and other editors have been doing for the past few days or so. Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 21:56, 16 May 2025 (UTC)
Is Outlaw Vern a reliable source? According to the author, he has written for Ain't It Cool News and CLiNT magazine, and written books published by Titan Books. Mika1h (talk) 14:12, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
- The Independent and SF Weekly have written about him: [1], [2]. Also found that he has also written for Seattle Weekly: [3] --Mika1h (talk) 18:10, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
- I would say given that the sources mention that he's got a particular schtick that he might be useful for critical commentary, but I would question whether there are better sources to generally use for this, and I don't think it would make sense to consider him reliable for anything else relating to the films. Just to let everybody know who remembers Marnette and the great work he did with Film and TV. He died on March 4, 2025. Thank you MD for your contributions to this project and your enthusiasm about films! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:42, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
- Sad news. I didn't have a ton of interaction with Marnette, but I know he spent a lot of time helping to keep cats and list articles tidy, and weighed in on a lot of important issues over the years. RIP MD --GoneIn60 (talk) 19:19, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
- Aw, wow, this is sad news. Thank you for sharing. He contributed so much, and I remember him well from cordial discussions where even if we disagreed, we could both strive to come to a resolution. I respected him a lot for that tenor and think about that whenever I see his name in old discussions out there. Erik (talk | contrib) 16:19, 18 May 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you for informing of us his passing. I don't really feel as though I have friends here, but he was one of the people who I would have come closest to thinking of as such. I'll miss his involvement greatly, and my deepest sympathies to his friends and family. :| DonIago (talk) 22:43, 18 May 2025 (UTC)
- It is very sad. He defended me a few times when I received harassment from an IP user. Despite disagreements we had, he was still one of the best. - FilmandTVFan28 (talk) 23:42, 18 May 2025 (UTC)
- Very sad. Thanks for making us aware. They will be missed.Andrzejbanas (talk) 09:31, 19 May 2025 (UTC)
- A giant of the film project. I was sad when he retired, although I know he was having problems with his eyesight and was finding editing difficult. Sad news. Betty Logan (talk) 09:47, 19 May 2025 (UTC)
- Lovely comments, he would appreciate these, thanks so much.♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:59, 25 May 2025 (UTC)
- I am running Wikipedia:The World Destubathon next month, and have named a $100 prize after him, the Marnette D. Memorial Award for Film, TV, Theatre and Literature. If anybody wants to destub or improve a few film articles as part of it you'd be very welcome. The idea would be to use it to buy a book or two about films to further contribute!♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:55, 28 May 2025 (UTC)

How do we verify the cast of a film (since IMDb, and other IMDb / Wikipedia mirrors are unreliable)? If someone adds a non-main actor and character to the cast, and I haven't seen the film / do not have access to the film, and there are no review sites or other sources talking about it, do I assume good faith, if the same is available on IMDb? If I add a {{citation needed}} against the actor's entry, how does someone fix it? Is it enough for a Trust me, he is there, I have watched the movie, and seen the rolling credits.
Jay 💬 08:49, 24 May 2025 (UTC)
- If no independent reliable sources exist confirming the cast, then I would think the film itself is a perfectly fine reference, provided that there is no reason to believe that the film's credits are mistaken (e.g., a reliable source reporting on an actor disputing their credit on the film, or something). I would personally solve such an issue by using the {{Cite AV media}} template and providing an exact timestamp with the
time
parameter. silviaASH (inquire within) 09:01, 24 May 2025 (UTC) - Since the film itself is an acceptable source for credits (with the obvious exception of uncredited roles), I'd probably just ask at the Talk page if I had concerns, and take it on good-faith if editors other than the editor who'd made the addition confirmed that the actor(s) of concern are indeed credited. DonIago (talk) 16:09, 24 May 2025 (UTC)
- IMDb generally transcribes the credits accurately for released films. IMDb can't be used as a source, the actual listed credits in film itself is the reliable primary source for who is credited, but IMDb usually is correct and complete for credits. The problems is that IMDb is user edited and I personally have found bogus credits listed on some projects, which I did report to IMDb and they fixed. Geraldo Perez (talk) 16:27, 24 May 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for all the responses. Asking at the talk page looks to be a viable solution. The concern is with IP editors or one-time editors adding their fav (lesser known) actor, or as paid editing, to multiple works, either as redlinks or just mentions, to increase visibility. Some could be genuine, some could be based on memory, and film article watchers are not usually concerned about a single entry being added to the cast of their watched article. Jay 💬 12:22, 25 May 2025 (UTC)
- In cases like this where there are many minor character who may or may not have wikipedia articles, I usually balance this out with the following questions: Are these characters essential to understanding the plot and have we named the characters in the plot? Are they mentioned in the casting in the production? Do we have third-party sources discussing this persons roll even if its minor? If not, we are probably getting into unnecessary detail territory. Is this the right place to seek editors to weigh in on a consensus on the Marty Supreme page? 3 editors agreed on a consensus to remove very irrelevant information on the page but one editor has refused this decision and keeps reverting to add this information, which has led to nonstop edit warring. Are there any editors available that can join in on the consensus with their opinions so we can end the dispute once and for all. It’s been going on for weeks now. Recently, I've seen a few IPs completely or mostly remove content from the #Plot section in articles of movies not completely worldwide yet. Apparently, the main reason is because "users are spoiling the movie this way". I'm not sure if this is a justifiable reason or if it's part of a policy I'm not aware of. Help? Hacked (Talk|Contribs) 09:01, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Ivebeenhacked It's understandable that the IP users wants to avoid spoilers, but it's not really an justifiable reason as per WP:SPOILER (guideline):
It is not acceptable to add "spoiler warning" notices or to delete information from (or hide it within) an article because you think it spoils the plot.
Jolly1253 (talk) 09:39, 29 May 2025 (UTC)- Ah, this should've been obvious to me.... anyway, thank you for helping me understand. Hacked (Talk|Contribs) 14:39, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
Hello. Project members are invited to participate in The World Destubathon. We're aiming to destub a lot of articles and also improve longer stale articles. It will be held from Monday June 16 - Sunday July 13. There is $3338 going into it, with $500 the top prize. There is a $100 prize in memory of Marnette D for the editor who destubs and improves the most articles for film, TV, theatre and literature. If you are interested in winning some vouchers to help you buy books for future content, or just see it as a good editathon opportunity to see a lot of film articles improved during the month, sign up if interested.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:49, 31 May 2025 (UTC)

You are invited to join the discussion at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2025 May 31 § Category:Works about fictional serial killers, which is within the scope of this WikiProject. User:jc37 has proposed over the course of this discussion that all categories about fictional serial killers (which would include Category:Serial killer films and affect the categorization of articles about those films, as well as film serial killer characters like Hannibal Lecter and Patrick Bateman) be eliminated and the topic converted to a list. More opinions on the matter are desired. silviaASH (inquire within) 20:58, 2 June 2025 (UTC)
Lately, there were some concerns raised on the Spider-Man: No Way Home talk page about using footnotes for multiple references to prevent any potential citation overkill. Back to the Future, an FA, uses this method.
Since this will likely affect any and all film-related articles, I'm going to start a discussion here. See also this discussion at Wikipedia:Help desk#Multiple references. Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 07:23, 3 June 2025 (UTC)
- I disagree that this discussion will impact "any and all film-related articles". It is a matter of personal preference for the editors working on the article, and local consensus can be determined. Just because you saw one option in a featured article does not mean that is the only correct way to approach the issue. - adamstom97 (talk) 08:06, 3 June 2025 (UTC)
- I know. I just thought I could get some advice here. Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 08:07, 3 June 2025 (UTC)
Just came across 2012 BFI London Film Festival Awards, which is just about the end-of-festival awards that were presented in 2012 and not about the whole festival. Obviously that's not how we write about film festivals ordinarily — while some film festivals {Cannes, Berlin, Toronto, Sundance, etc.) do have separate articles about each year's event, they're supposed to be complete articles about the entire event, including as complete as possible a listing of all the films that screened at the festival, with that year's award winners certainly coverable in a subsection of that larger article but not isolated as their own independent article topic all by themselves.
BFI London does have such articles in place for 2022, 2023 and 2024, but not yet for earlier years, while this appears to be the only one that treats the award announcements as a standalone topic in their own right while pretending that nothing else about the rest of the festival was notable at all.
Obviously, this should be converted into a more thorough and complete article about the 2012 BFI festival as a whole, if possible — but if it can't, then it's unclear that it would actually be needed in its existing form. So do any British editors here have access to resources (media coverage, the 2012 film schedule listings, etc.) that could get it looking more like individual-year film festival articles are supposed to look? I was thinking about listings and rankings of media recently and it made me think about doing a Sight and Sound poll of the the Greatest Films of All Time, but with Wikipedia editors.
The only requirement would be having at least 1 GA or FA of a film, television show, actor, studio, or something else falling under the film project's purview.
It would be an interesting look into the people who make film articles on Wikipedia and show us what biases we have depending on the directors or countries of origin for the film's we pick.
Would anybody be interested in participating? I could simply make a user page and everybody else would only be required to write down up to ten films. Jon698 (talk) 06:32, 5 June 2025 (UTC)

Hello! I recently submitted a draft article on Elijah Anatole, a Saint Lucian filmmaker and director of the nationally released 2025 feature film Heartfall. The article is backed by reliable, independent sources (e.g., St. Lucia Times, The Voice, Hot7TV). I’d appreciate it if someone from the project could review the draft or help speed up the review process.
Thanks in advance! ArtlasStudios (talk) 01:48, 9 June 2025 (UTC)
I came across this terminology for a person employed as a film charger and I see that there are also devices for the task. Should we have an entry on the subject? Is a film charger the same as a film loader? Clapper loader? FloridaArmy (talk) 15:14, 9 June 2025 (UTC)
- @FloridaArmy: I tried searching around for information but I was unable to find anything that cleared up this. I don't know if this is because information doesn't really exist, or if search engines are so bad these days that they were unable to find information on it.★Trekker (talk) 23:13, 10 June 2025 (UTC)

I've nominated Animal Crackers to be a good article, after some work. I was hoping to make it a featured article before it goes into public domain in January (and maybe make it a TFA in January). I think there will be a lot more interest in this kind of work as more sound films fall into PD. I put it up for a Peer Review, and one of the reviewers suggested I look for help here. An editor submitted the article to peer review as he wanted to make the article better, and possibly reach FA or GA status, in advance of the film entering into the public domain in January 2026.
I came across the listing and decided to page you guys here at WP:FILM. The article is currently well-researched but needs a lot of editing for tone, style, conciseness, as well as falling in line with FA-level articles about films. I'm not very knowledgeable on editing film stuff in WP, but thought you guys might be a help.
I've already given some feedback on the peer review page and made some edits. Please feel free to chime in with advice, insight and opinions. CVDX (talk) 21:03, 13 June 2025 (UTC)

Me and an IP have discussed the issue of how some information on the Zilla (Godzilla) article have been presented, or rather misrepresented -- and we both have come to an agreement on how to improve the article. However, the overhaul of an entire article cannot rest on the decision of two editors. Therefore, I invite those interested to the discussion at the article's talk page and provide your two cents. Some of the edits we've proposed may invoke resistance, or even controversy, so mass consensus is needed before we implement our edits. Armegon (talk) 05:57, 14 June 2025 (UTC)
