Zac Dell (born 11 January 2001) is a New Zealand competitive swimmer who has represented New Zealand at the World Championships in 2022.
Swimming Career
[edit]2019 Summer Universiade
[edit]Dell qualified for the 2019 Summer Universiade held in Naples, Italy representing Massey University.[1] At the games, his best place finish was in the 100 metre backstroke which he finished in 31st in a time of 56.14, he also competed in the 50 metre backstroke with a 41st place finish in a time of 26.31 and 52nd in the 100 metre freestyle in a time of 52.83. He was also swum the butterfly leg of the 4x100 metre medley relay alongside Kane Follows, Eliot Lundon Moore and Jonathon Rutter that finished 19th in a time of 3:47.69.[2]
2019 World Junior Championships
[edit]A month later, Dell was back in the water racing at the 7th FINA World Junior Swimming Championships held in Budapest, Hungary after qualifying for the 50 metre, 100 metre and 200 metre backstroke.[3] Dell made the semi-finals of the 100 metre backstroke after a15th place finish in the heats with a 55.93 before improving to 55.56 and 14th place overall in the semi-final. He finished 18th in the 50 metre backstroke in a time of 26.15, and 27th in the 200 metre backstroke in a time of 2:04.54.[4]
2022 World Championships
[edit]Dell made his first senior appearance for New Zealand at the 2022 World Short Course Championships held in Melbourne, Australia. Dell competed in the 100 metre backstroke where he finished 24th in a time of 51.98.[5]
He was also part of relay teams including the mixed 4x50 meter freestyle relay that qualified for the final alongside Carter Swift, Rebecca Moynihan and Emma Godwin and set a new national record, although Dell did not swim in the final. He also was part of the 4x100 metre freestyle relay alongside Cameron Gray, Swift and George Williams that finished 9th in a time of 3:10.97, the 4x100 metre medley relay that finished 9th in a national record alongside Josh Gilbert, Gray and Swift in a time of 3:26.68, the 4x50 metre freestyle that finished 10th in a national record time alongside Gray, Swift and Williams in a time of 1:26.59, and the 4x50 metre medley relay that finished 12th alongside Gilbert, Gray and Swift also in a national record of 1:37.86.[5]
