Structure

Hierarchy definition

No classification of this project has been defined.

Goals

  1. To improve Wikipedia's coverage of poker in general.
  2. To create articles on every notable poker player.
  3. To improve existing poker articles and get articles to featured standard.

Tasks

Outstanding

NB: These tasks are not necessarily in order of priority.

  1. Cleanup and expand article on Jani Sointula.
  2. Find out and publish winners of 2005 European Poker Awards (I believe Dave "El Blondie" Colclough won the Lifetime Achievement award, but I haven't seen this confirmed and that's the only result I've even heard rumoured.)
  3. Create article for William Hill Poker Grand Prix.
  4. Create article on Vince Burgio.
  5. Cleanup article on Johnny Chan (poker player) - needs some semblance of order to it. It's somewhat chaotic at the moment.
  6. Articles on the rest of "The Crew". Right now, all we have is Scott Fischman. Others are Russ "Dutch" Boyd, Bobby Boyd, David "Dorf" Smyth, Joe Bartholdi, Tony Lazar and Brett "Gank" Jungblut.

In progress

  1. Change all players' flags to birth country. (In progress by Essexmutant)
  2. Project tag all article/category talk pages to link to WikiProject to attract more members. (In progress by Essexmutant)
  3. Improve and expand Poker probability (Texas hold 'em). (In progress by Doug Bell) Please add any suggestions of what probabilities to discuss or how to improve the article on the talk page.

Recently completed

  1. Tidy up World Series of Poker, 2005 to make consistant with other years' WSOP's. Done by Essexmutant 09:26, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Create article for High Stakes Poker. Done by Woohookitty(cat scratches) 12:03, 3 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  3. Create redirects for WSOP years. e.g.: create redirect from 1971 World Series of Poker and 1971 WSOP to World Series of Poker, 1971.

Adopt an article

Similar to the Collaboration of the week, but on a smaller scale, you might want to "adopt" an article. This would involve doing the research, writing, and picture-taking (if possible) for either a non-existent article or a stub. Of course, everyone else can still edit an adopted article, and you can work on other things too, but the idea is to find a focus for a while, to try and build up the number of quality articles the Project has produced.

I think a collaboration would be a good idea. I don't think a formal voting system is needed until we get more participants, but we could use this area to suggest articles to work on. I think Doyle Brunson would be a good one to start with as there's plenty of easily-available info on him - there are the biographical sections in SS1 and 2 and quite a few stories about him in Slim's biography.
