Jayant Pawar (February 22, 1960 – August 29, 2021), Mumbai
Jayant Pawar was a Marathi writer known for his contributions across multiple literary genres. His body of work includes drama reviews, one-act plays, full-length plays, short stories, as well as critical articles and literary essays. In addition to his literary pursuits, he also wrote screenplays and dialogues for films.
As a journalist, he worked with several notable publications including Mahanagar, Chanderi Weekly, Loksatta Dainik, and later Maharashtra Times, where he served for many years. He was also Editor of Maharashtra Times Annual issue called Diwali Ank published on the occasion of Diwali festival.
Pawar first gained recognition with his play ‘Adhantar’, which premiered on August 8, 1997. The play earned widespread critical acclaim and received several prestigious awards.
He later started short story writing, and his debut collection ‘Phoenixchya Rakhetun Uthala Mor’ (meaning ‘A Peacock Rises from the Ashes of the Phoenix’), published in 2010, won the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2012.

[edit]Director-Actor Atul Pethe used to perform recitation of the story ‘Tarkachya khuntivarun nisatalele rahasya’.
Jayant Pawar had interviewed a clerk working in a crematorium and it was published under the name ‘Passwala’.
Playwright Vijay Tendulkar did recitations of it. Currently, Sameer Dalvi and Vineet Marathe are doing the renditions of it.
In Hyderabad, the Sutradhar Natya Sanstha also did recitation of it.
A one-act play/long play based on his story ‘Janma Ek Vyadhi’ was presented.
Swapnil Ajgaonkar staged shows of a play based on his story ‘Sahashe bahattar rupayancha sawal arthat Yuddh Aamuche Suru’. The play was adapted and directed by Swapnil Ajgaonkar himself.

‘Khachikaranachi panchavis varshe’ - Article
On 18 January 2007, the Mumbai mill strike completed twenty-five years, on which occasion Jayant Pawar wrote an article titled ‘Khachikaranachi panchavis varshe’ in Maharashtra Times. This article, which chronicles how the strike of 2.5 lakh mill workers took place and what happened in it, was forwarded many times amongst people.
Jayant Pawar wrote an article titled ‘Tujya Naadana Pahili Tujich Re Pandhari’ in which he had a conversation with his late father during last days of himself. Iit was published in the Diwali issue of Pudhari 2020. This conversation was heartfelt and touching. It became famous. Performance of it’s renditions take place from time to time.

The Hindi film ‘Rajjo’ is based on the story of ‘Chanduchya lagnachi gosht arthat Saddham Mein Taddam.
The Marathi film ‘Ticha Umbartha’ is based on Jayant Pawar’s play Mazha Ghar. Its story, screenplay and dialogues are by Jayant Pawar.
The film ‘Nai Varanbhatloncha Ni Kon Nai Koncha’ is based on his story ‘Varanbhatloncha Ni Kon Nai Koncha’. Its dialogues are by Jayant Pawar.
Dukhkhche Shwapad is a story by Ranganath Pathare. A Marathi film ‘Dukhkhache Shwapad’ was made based on it. Its screenplay and dialogues were written by Jayant Pawar.

A theatre organization called Prayog Malad had organized a one-act play competition titled 'Lekhak Ek, Natyachhata Anek' on 13-14 October 2018. In the final round of the competition, 14 one-act plays by Jayant Pawar were presented. The event was held at the Mini Theatre of Prabodhankar Thackeray Natyagruha in Borivali, Mumbai. This was the fifth year of such competitions.
Personal
He fought a serious illness like cancer for many years and continued his writing work even in that situation. He was active till the end.
