Current requests for increase in protection level

[edit]
Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for protection increases at the BOTTOM of this section. If you cannot find your request, check the archive of requests or, failing that, the page history. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing. FMSky (talk) 06:55, 31 May 2025 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 3 weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Materialscientist (talk) 09:44, 31 May 2025 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection: Desruptive edits by IP addresses PawPatroler (talk) 08:03, 31 May 2025 (UTC)

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Materialscientist (talk) 09:44, 31 May 2025 (UTC)

Indefinite pending changes: Persistent vandalism – Recurring vandalism target from a long-term abuser. Blake Gripling (talk) 09:07, 31 May 2025 (UTC)

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Materialscientist (talk) 09:43, 31 May 2025 (UTC)

Reason: New accounts keep coming to this page to "update" the goals to include goals from all competitions, despite consensus across ALL football pages that this should be league goals only. Given the similar patterns (only doing this for his current team, not all teams) I am led to believe these are sock puppets of a user who was blocked for doing this repeatedly. Unknown Temptation (talk) 09:10, 31 May 2025 (UTC)

Indefinite pending changes protection: Persistent disruptive editing. Various IPs begging for money and inserting sensitive information. jolielover♥talk 10:36, 31 May 2025 (UTC)

Pending-changes protected for a period of one year, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. The escalation cadence in the protection log doesn't support indefinite quite yet, but we're probably close to getting there. Chetsford (talk) 12:31, 31 May 2025 (UTC)

Reason: Multiple IPs and accounts using IP as a username repeatedly vandalizing Arjayay (talk) 12:24, 31 May 2025 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of three days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. This appears to be a content dispute rather than straight-up vandalism, however, the speed of edits is disruptive so a very short period of protection is warranted. I'm giving a little accommodation here since this is an FA article. Chetsford (talk) 12:28, 31 May 2025 (UTC)

Current requests for reduction in protection level

[edit]
Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

  • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
  • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
  • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
  • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: It has been 11 years since this page was semi protected. The tournament itself held 15 years ago, so I don't think the page will be very popular or vandalized. Also, articles about the next two editions—2014 FIFA World Cup & 2018 FIFA World Cup—are not protected. Therefore, I suggest we cn try to remove the protection and see what happened. The Seal F1 (talk) 14:03, 29 May 2025 (UTC)

Seems reasonable to me. Could you try discussion with the protecting admin first? If they decline or take more than a few days to respond, your welcome to ask me to review or re-request here. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 15:26, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
Hi. The administrator who protected that page has made only a few edits over the past month — all of them related to "cleaning up" their talk page, so I'm not sure if this is a good idea. That's why Im asking here. The Seal F1 (talk) 15:52, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
It's not uncommon for admins to be inactive for a month but still respondent to pings. I figured we should attempt a ping. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 15:58, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
Ok. I'll try. The Seal F1 (talk) 16:03, 29 May 2025 (UTC)

Current requests for edits to a protected page

[edit]
Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

  • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
  • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
  • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
  • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
  • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Change the page title to "Gazan Genocide". I think it would sound more better like for example, Bosian Genocide, Rwandan Genocide, etc. 47.18.219.118 (talk) 02:28, 31 May 2025 (UTC)

Autopatrolled

[edit]

Hello, I have started 300+ pages and have been editing for over three and a half years consistently. Early on, I struggled with notability, but I have since demonstrated an understanding for the notability guidelines. I would like to have autopatrol rights, please. Thanks, Bulldawg (talk) 06:48, 20 May 2025 (UTC)

I have created a large number of articles, all without any significant issues. Another user proposed on my talk page that I request to be Autopatrolled. Throughthemind (talk) 15:10, 20 May 2025 (UTC)

Been around for 10 years. A new page reviewer (see here) encouraged me to request the autopatrolled rights over my page and redirect creation record. ~ IvanScrooge98 (talk) 22:42, 23 May 2025 (UTC)

Some of your given name and surname pages lack citations for the origins/meanings of the names. For example, the first sentence of Cencio has substantive information that requires a reference. voorts (talk/contributions) 18:59, 26 May 2025 (UTC)
Added refs for Cencio. I’ll be more careful about sourcing info in lists. ~ IvanScrooge98 (talk) 20:57, 26 May 2025 (UTC)

I came across this user in New Page Review. They are a prolific translator (with attribution!) of es-wiki pages on notable topics. Creates talk pages and problem-free articles. 76 mainspace articles created with no deletions. With JohnMizuki continuing to create new pages, granting the autopatrolled flag would help reduce the backlog of unreviewed articles. Dclemens1971 (talk) 14:58, 28 May 2025 (UTC)

Came across FromCzech in New Page Review and I wondered how this user is not already autopatrolled! Has created 165 mainspace pages with none deleted. Creates problem-free pages on notable topics with appropriate sources, including SIGCOV for athletes. Creates talk pages and selects useful categories. Already has the Page Mover perm; I think granting AP will assist with reducing the backlog for reviewers. Dclemens1971 (talk) 14:25, 30 May 2025 (UTC)

There are no outstanding requests for the confirmed flag.

File mover

[edit]

I see a lot of typos in filenames and when fixing typos I normally skip them when they are in filenames. I don't expect to use it for anything but simple typofixes. See here. Thanks, Polygnotus (talk) 00:30, 25 May 2025 (UTC)

Page mover

[edit]

The primary case where I want to move pages that I am unable to move with my current permissions is to bring them to the title preferred under the guideline WP:MONOTYPICFAUNA (in a nutshell: when a genus has a single species, Wikipedia covers the genus and species in a single article under the genus title). I regularly come across animal articles where a monotypic genus redirects to a species title, and there are just 2-3 edits to the genus title (generally the second edit is adding {{R from monotypic taxon}} and then maybe another edit adding other categories to the genus redirect). Plantdrew (talk) 02:18, 31 May 2025 (UTC)

Mass message sender

[edit]

I am running contests like Wikipedia:The World Destubathon. It is a big attempt to eliminate thousands of stubs for every country and topic and want to invite a lot of project members personally with a message. User:DreamRimmer and User:Polygnotus have been very helpful, but it would greatly help me if I was given formal mass message rights as I will likely be running more contests in the future and need the easiest outlet to contact relevant projects and participants who would potentially be interested without having to spend ages doing it manually! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 06:51, 31 May 2025 (UTC)

Pending changes reviewer

Hello! I am requesting the pending changes reviewer right to help the project. I have read through all the relevant policys and have been patroling recent changes for a while now.  Done Mz7 (talk) 01:21, 29 May 2025 (UTC)

Reason for requesting pending changes reviewer rights:

To expand my tool belt as an extended confirmed recent changes patroller, and to more quickly afford new users their non policy breaking contribution. I have currently no sanctions against me and I think I understand wiki policy well enough for it. Thank you JamesEMonroe (talk) 20:02, 22 May 2025 (UTC) (Post edit) When using this perm, I will take extra care. I think I have met requirements in WP:PCCRITERIA and have reviewed Wikipedia policy. Also please consider older reverts as well or when I took the time to explain things to new users. JamesEMonroe (talk) 21:27, 22 May 2025 (UTC)

Hi JamesEMonroe! I am not formally granting this permission (nor am I denying it), but I do think you should cut back a bit on the WP:STICKYDECO stuff on your userpage. While I have added the applicable CSS class to make the gadget function, many newbies—who frequently will have complaints when you revert their edits—will be unaware of the ability to tick the box to disable them, and they can be highly annoying/distracting/problematic for editors with sensory issues.

I wouldn't object if another admin chooses to grant the permission, but I wouldn't personally feel comfortable assigning newbie-interaction-heavy advanced permissions with the current amount of sticky decorations. Best regards, HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 02:55, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
Ah, Thank you! As you saw, I tried to add the collapsible boxes as a way for people to disable them (like the "clutter clear ->") as collapsing it would disable the code within. I was planning on making some changes actually, such as rearranging things and improving accessibility a bit, while always importantly keeping the talk page free from anything as it is. I hope it didn't appear unprofessional on me or too annoying.
But I see what you mean as some newer people might not see the boxes. and ill see what I could do. JamesEMonroe (talk) 04:15, 29 May 2025 (UTC)

I am requesting this right so that I can more easily revert vandalism. If you have looked at my user page, one of the main things I do is revert vandalism. This right, while not making it easier to do so, would give me a different way to do so. I think I have met requirements in WP:PCCRITERIA and have reviewed Wikipedia policy. My account is pretty new, but that is because I just got back into editing Wikipedia. I had an account when I lived in Chicago that had over a year experience. I could not longer access that account because I have forgotten the username and password. Again, I think this would be a good opportunity for me to do something I love in a different way. Whatever your decision is, thank you for considering. ExplorerofSpace (talk) 20:12, 22 May 2025 (UTC)

Hello all, I was wondering if any administrators have reviewed this user right request page. Thanks for any help. ExplorerofSpace (talk) 21:04, 27 May 2025 (UTC)
Not done. Your current account is still relatively new, so I would give it a bit more time (without knowing your previous username, I have no way of evaluating your previous experience). I reviewed some of your recent reverts, and I noticed that you have a tendency to revert edits for the reason "unexplained content removal" in cases where the editor did provide a reason for the content removal in the edit summary [2][3], or where it is clearly removing poorly sourced or inappropriate content [4][5]. Please edit more carefully, and you may request this permission again when you have more experience. Mz7 (talk) 02:12, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
Ok, thanks for the recommendations. ExplorerofSpace (talk) 12:24, 29 May 2025 (UTC)

I am requesting pending changes reviewer rights so I can make good meaningful changes for Wikipedia on behalf of anonymous editors because they are the majority of editors and deserve a non-vandalism say in Wiki editing too. WikiEditor5678910 (talk) 13:43, 23 May 2025 (UTC)

(Non-administrator comment)Hi, WikiEditor5678910! The pcr permission doesn't mean that you are actually making edits on behalf of the IP editors. Using this permission you can accept revisions or revert them. You make edits on their behalf when they request it. Ɔþʱʏɾɪʊs 06:28, 24 May 2025 (UTC)
Not done. Your account does not have that many substantive edits to articles yet, so I don't think you've established the track record we need to grant you this permission. I recommend waiting to get more experience editing Wikipedia, perhaps by patrolling recent changes for vandalism, before requesting this permission again. Thanks, Mz7 (talk) 02:20, 29 May 2025 (UTC)

I want to have this permission to reduce the pending changes backlog. I reviewed all the guidelines, such as BLP and the guideline for referencing. I revert good faiths and obvious vandalism and warn the user right after. Although I cannot perform a rollback to the recent changes page to have a consecutive track record due to my device's limited capabilities. I would rather choose pending changes over rollback; with rollback, I must have track records of mass rollback vandalism. But since I understood the guideline of rollback and pending changes, I can assure you that I will be responsible for having this permission. — ArćRèvtalk 10:38, 24 May 2025 (UTC)
