Submission declined on 11 June 2025 by Theroadislong (talk). This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia.

Submission declined on 22 January 2025 by JBW (talk). This submission appears to read more like an advertisement than an entry in an encyclopedia. Encyclopedia articles need to be written from a neutral point of view, and should refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources, not just to materials produced by the creator of the subject being discussed. This is important so that the article can meet Wikipedia's verifiability policy and the notability of the subject can be established. If you still feel that this subject is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, please rewrite your submission to comply with these policies. Declined by JBW 5 months ago. | ![]() |

Tohji (born 5th February 1996) based in Tokyo, is a Japanese hip-hop artist. He is also active as a member of the crew "Mall Boyz" , which he formed with Gummyboy and others.[1]
Biography
[edit]Tohji is a Japanese musician and visual artist known for his contributions to new-wave and experimental hip-hop. He was born in London, England in 1996 and moved to Japan at the age of three, subsequently living in Yokohama and Tokyo.[2]
Tohji is recognized for his distinctive visual style and music that blends elements of internet-age aesthetics with contemporary hip-hop. His public image often features Y2K-era influences, including wraparound sunglasses, loose-fitting tracksuits, and a disheveled hairstyle, reflecting a style reminiscent of early 2010s vaporwave and mallsoft subcultures.[3]
Visual presentation plays a central role in Tohji's artistic identity. In an interview with The Fader, he described himself as "the new Visual Beatles." When asked about this statement in Office Magazine, he elaborated, stating, “I make a whole big swag.”[4]
In August 2019, Tohji made his first guest appearance on the online radio platform NTS Radio.[5] He later returned for additional sets in July 2021 and June 2022.
In February 2021, Tohji collaborated with designer DETTO K to launch the fashion label VANILLANI, which features one-size-fits-all clothing.[6]
Tohji released a mixtape titled t-mix in June 2022, which included collaborations with Bladee, Yeule, Mechatok, and others.[7] He subsequently embarked on a summer tour in Japan.[8] On 27 August 2022, he released the music video for Super Ocean Man, which reached 1.8 million views.[9]
In 2023, he released the single Aglio e Olio.[10] On 15 June 2023, he performed at Sónar Festival in Barcelona, Spain.[11] Mall Tape 2 was then release in July.[12] In September 2023, he began a tour across Japan and China, performing in cities such as Tokyo, Osaka, Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Beijing. On 24 November 2023, he participated in the Natural Mind Residency at Phonox in London, UK.[13] Later that year in December, Tohji took over Japan’s biggest-ever Boiler Room for one night, featuring key players from his u-ha party series.[14]
In April and May 2024, Tohji toured Japan, Europe, and North America, with performances in cities including London, Paris, Los Angeles, and New York.[15] On 18 and 19 May 2024, he headlined Japan’s largest hip-hop festival, POP YOURS, at Makuhari Messe in Chiba. The event was sold out.[16]
On 31 July 2024, he released the single medium rare,[17] followed by a remixed version by sim0ne on 15 October.[18] On 11 December, Tohji released a new single from his upcoming album Tenkasu, the next day, a visual made by Vietnam-based collective Antiantiart was released on YouTube, the video was filmed in Vietnam too.[19]
On 2 February 2025, Tohji held his first solo arena concert at Yokohama Pia Arena MM in Japan.[20] March 2025, he released part one of his upcoming project zero-one, the second half then was released on 30 May.[21] The same month, Tohji also announced that a documentary film of his Arena Show would be released for screening at Aeon Cinema locations across Japan, from 20 June.[22]
