James Dear (born August 2, 2002), professionally known as Luci4, is an American rapper, songwriter and record producer based in Hemet, California, known for his songs, which blew up on TikTok in 2021, and got him signed to Atlantic Records. Originally starting as a producer under the moniker, "4jay," producing songs such as "Gotta Blast" by Tay-K. His debut single, "Bodypartz", received a gold certification by the Recording Industry Association of America, following a surge of the song's popularity on TikTok.
Musical style
[edit]He is known for his hyperpop approach with hip-hop drums, and spiritual lyrics over dark club beats, which are often chopped and screwed to extreme tempos to make his songs glitchy,[1] with his music being classified as soundcloud rap.[2]
Career
[edit]Luci4 originally was a producer in BMB Deathrow, collective by SpaceGhostPurrp formed in 2015[3] He is known for producing Tay-K's "Gotta Blast" off his second and final mixtape, Santana World.[3]
He was involved in the pioneering and movement of the Sigilkore genre, alongside the subgenre Krushclub.[4] With his songs "Bodypartz",[1] "All Eyez on Me",[1] and "Kurxxed Emeraldz"[1] all going viral on TikTok. On January 24, 2024, "Bodypartz" was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America,[5] following a surge of the song's popularity on TikTok.[6] Kurxxed Emeraldz earned over 200,000 streams in mid-2021.[7]
