ANI discussion
Hey, just an FYI, there's this discussion that was opened since it doesn't appear they notified you. Sergecross73 msg me 15:12, 4 June 2025 (UTC)
- It is imperative that you respond as the thread has taken an alarming turn. Hurry. tempis fugit. -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 08:30, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
- Hey Bbb23, looking at the AN thread, there is pretty widespread agreement that you're blocking too harshly, and a strong undercurrent of 'enough is enough'. I think if you don't dial it down quite a bit, a recall petition is likely gonna be started, and I'm fairly sure it would pass the threshold. I think it's also really very likely if you don't respond to the thread. You don't need to agree with people, you just need to acknowledge their concerns and say you'll dial it down in order to defer to consensus. Don't want to lose you as an admin. Floquenbeam (talk) 20:06, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
- And if you are taking a little time offline to gather your thoughts before responding, that is reasonable, but you should say so. Regards, Newyorkbrad (talk) 20:19, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
- Please. Respond. While there is still time. -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 20:39, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
- Hi, we’ve never interacted before, but for years I’ve been observing the amazing work you do for Wikipedia, it’s invaluable. I’d implore you to please respond at the ANI thread, with an open mind, to take on the feedback that’s been presented. Best Hy Brasil (talk) 21:30, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
- I hope you are okay. This must be a horrible experience to go through. Secretlondon (talk) 12:34, 6 June 2025 (UTC)
Admin recall petition
There is currently a petition at Wikipedia:Administrator recall/Bbb23 for you to initiate a re-request for adminship (RRfA).
You can provide a statement by editing the page's code and removing the comment markup around the Response section above the Discussion section. Should the petition reach 25 extended confirmed signatories within 30 days, you may initiate an RRfA during the next 30 days, and if you do not initiate an RRfA within a reasonable time frame, bureaucrats will have the discretion to remove your administrator privileges.
An RRfA has a threshold of 60% for an automatic reconfirmation and 50% for a bureaucrat discussion. Before the RRfA begins, you may opt to run in an administrator election with a 55% threshold if one is occurring within 30 days. For further information, please consult the administrator recall process page.

To retain your administrative tools, you must initiate an RRfA or take part in an administrator election within the next 30 days. If you do not, bureaucrats will have the discretion to remove your administrator privileges. An RRfA has a threshold of 60% for an automatic reconfirmation and 50% for a bureaucrat discussion whereas a reconfirmation administrator election has a 55% threshold for automatic reconfirmation. For further information, please consult Wikipedia:Administrator recall.—Alalch E. 15:06, 6 June 2025 (UTC)
- Sorry, Bbb23, I guess I gave you bad advice. I should have known better; being optimistic never works. Anyway, thanks for all the good work you’ve done here over the years. If you ever want to talk, let me know and I’ll reinstate my WP email. Floquenbeam (talk) 16:46, 6 June 2025 (UTC)
Administrators' newsletter – June 2025
News and updates for administrators from the past month (May 2025).
- An RfC is open to determine whether the English Wikipedia community should adopt a position on AI development by the WMF and its affiliates.
- A new feature called Multiblocks will be deployed on English Wikipedia on the week of June 2. See the relevant announcement on the administrators' noticeboard.
- History merges performed using the mergehistory special page are now logged at both the source and destination, rather than just the source as previously, after this RFC and the resolution of T118132.
- An arbitration case named Indian military history has been opened. Evidence submissions for this case close on 8 June.
- Voting for the Universal Code of Conduct Coordinating Committee (U4C) election is open until 17 June 2025. Read the voting page on Meta-Wiki and cast your vote here!
- An Articles for Creation backlog drive is happening in June 2025, with over 1,600 drafts awaiting review from the past two months. In addition to AfC participants, all administrators and new page patrollers can help review using the Yet Another AFC Helper Script, which can be enabled in the Gadgets settings. Sign up here to participate!
- The Unreferenced articles backlog drive is happening in June 2025 to reduce the backlog of articles tagged with {{Unreferenced}}. You can help reduce the backlog by adding citations to these articles. Sign up to participate!
- That's not funny, MediaWiki message delivery service! EEng 17:30, 6 June 2025 (UTC)
Thanks
I became an admin in 2019. There have been several cases since then where I have noticed a problematic editor and dithered about what to do. While wondering about things like block notices, I saw that you had acted and I always found that your block and notice were perfect. I keep some off-wiki how-to notes and they include copies of some of your messages that I have recycled. Thanks for all the great work. Johnuniq (talk) 04:37, 7 June 2025 (UTC)
- Many were the times that I woke up in California to see that you had reverted some troll's vandalism of my user pages while I was asleep. I am grateful for that. You are an enigmatic person and definitely not inclined to friendly banter. But I've never once thought that you were anything but dedicated to the best interests of this encyclopedia. It seems that you've made some errors that have been difficult for you to acknowledge. I understand.
- My Wikipedia time has been limited in the past week because my sister is in a serious health crisis and I seem best prepared to help her. So, this all developed so rapidly that I did not have time to formulate a considered response. What's done is done. Perhaps you will leave; perhaps you will reconsider. It is sad, but I just want to thank you for all the work that you have done for this encyclopedia for so many years. Cullen328 (talk) 06:53, 7 June 2025 (UTC)
- Hope your sister gets better. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 20:45, 8 June 2025 (UTC)
- I got a new job recently, and have been focused on that the last few weeks. First time logging in since April. I haven't read through all the stuff that led up to this, but I'll say that I have enjoyed working with you these past few years, and have always found you to be collegiate and professional. I'm very sorry to see this. Girth Summit (blether) 12:47, 7 June 2025 (UTC)

- Without having read much on the Great Dismal Swamp (where I rarely dwell): another voice in the choir of those who'd prefer Wikipedia with you rather than without you. - I have Easter Oratorio on the main page, - of course I told the story, which is admittedly complex, on Easter Sunday for the music's 300th anniversary. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:37, 7 June 2025 (UTC)
- This is a f***ing disaster! I know a couple of LTAs who are dancing around their camp fires now. Time to review my retirement options. Favonian (talk) 19:22, 7 June 2025 (UTC)
- You were very supportive to me when I first became an admin and later a CU. Thank you for that and for your dedication to this project over the years. I'm sad that it had to end in this way. Mz7 (talk) 19:37, 7 June 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Bbb23, it has been a while since we last interacted here. I appreciate your work in fighting promotion and vandalism as well as stopping hundreds of sockpuppets and trolls on Wikipedia. I'd never thought that a legitimate AN(I) discussion or recall petition would be opened against you. I’m sorry that things didn't really turn out the way we initially hoped for the past few days. Thank you for all your great work as an admin for almost 13 years. I wish you well. ~SG5536B 00:47, 8 June 2025 (UTC)
- Bbb23, I wanted to thank you for all of the great work you have put into this project for 2 decades. You've also looked after my talk page and reverted some awful vandalism. I do hope you will consider returning to editing, as this project is better off with you. Knitsey (talk) 18:31, 8 June 2025 (UTC)
- Damn, i just read/saw what happened. I just want to say thank you for your work and especially your help over the years (there were times where i came to your user talk quite often to ask for something and you were always nice and helpful). Like said above, this project is better with you on board, so i still hope you change your mind. Kante4 (talk) 20:10, 8 June 2025 (UTC)
- Yes, I agree with the others. Wikipedia is better with you. You and I have had minimal interaction but it seems like you were always rooting out vandalism and the like from articles on my watch list. A month or two ago, there was a persistant sock puppeteer who kept poppping up with new accounts and you were able to help me deal with him. Thank you. You will be missed. Masterhatch (talk) 20:17, 8 June 2025 (UTC)
- I haven't followed in enough detail the rights and wrongs of this, but I know the volume of SPIs, AN3 etc cases you (correctly) despatched and am concerned with how the gap will be filled. It's difficult to believe this is a net positive development. My suspicion is we've lost a lot for the sake of a handful of transgressions. All the best. DeCausa (talk) 20:22, 8 June 2025 (UTC)
- Still hoping you will address the concerns raised at WP:AN in a rerequest for adminship.-- Deepfriedokra (talk) 20:47, 8 June 2025 (UTC)
