Might he have been this man?

[edit]

The article describes his fate after playing for Merthyr as unknown. However, the CWGC list a plain Lance Corporal David Neave of the Black Watch (a Scottish regiment the player could have been eligible by Scots nativity and blood to serve in) whose age is unstated but died serving in France in WWI in 1918. See link: https://www.cwgc.org/find-records/find-war-dead/casualty-details/307914/david-neave/ . It names his parents but no birthplace or hometown is given. If the soldier was the same as the player, then he would have been 35 years old, within the range of military age. He does not appear in the Professional Football Association's website Football in the First World War which lists former Arsenal players who served, but it may have been that he lost contact with his penultimate club.Cloptonson (talk) 20:15, 3 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
