Allegations

[edit]

https://www.gurumag.com/becoming-god-inside-moojis-portugal-cult/ mentions a bunch of allegations also mentioned on https://mooji.org/behind-the-scenes

There are accusations, for example, that Moojibaba encourages or demands worship and devotion to his physical form (absolutely false), that people are encouraged to leave their friends and families (absolutely false), that people are hypnotised and brainwashed (absolutely false), and most abhorrently, that there is sexual abuse and promiscuity advocated and practiced by Moojibaba himself (absolutely false). Unfortunately, the Guru is a self-published source, so it's unusable for claims about other living people. I've seen these allegations now and then, but always in SPS, social media posts, or unreliable sources. As far as I know, they've never been picked up by reliable, independent, secondary sources. @Woodroar I would argue that mooji.org falls under WP:ABOUTSELF. It meets all 5 criteria. We are of course talking allegations, only if and when someone is convicted can we write that they actually did the thing they were accused of. Polygnotus (talk) 01:16, 25 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I can't support that. The mooji.org claim does involve third parties, even if unnamed. And importantly, there's no good way to include the content without implying wrongdoing. Even something as basic as "Mooji has denied allegations that he encourages worship or his followers to leave their friends and families, or that he hypnotizes or abuses his followers" plants that seed of doubt. That's why WP:PUBLICFIGURE says If you cannot find multiple reliable third-party sources documenting the allegation or incident, leave it out. Woodroar (talk) 01:50, 25 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Woodroar OK. there's no good way to include the content without implying wrongdoing Agreed, this is a fundamental problem with all forms of "journalism". If you write, in the Wikipedia article about me, that I have been accused of being a vampire who kills cows for fun there is literally no way to offset or contextualize that. No matter how much effort you spend a large percentage of the population will interpret it as if it is a fact. Reading comprehension is getting real bad these days. I have downloaded some stuff but I haven't read it yet; I'll update you if I find something (if I remember). Polygnotus (talk) 02:02, 25 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Accusations are funny like that! Yes, feel free to let me know if you find anything. I look from time to time but haven't found anything useable. Woodroar (talk) 02:32, 25 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
