Hello SideCar Public Relations. The nature of your edits, such as the one you made to Draft:Chad McWhinney, gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being employed (or being compensated in any way) by a person, group, company or organization to promote their interests. Paid advocacy on Wikipedia must be disclosed even if you have not specifically been asked to edit Wikipedia. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.
Paid advocates are strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.
Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:SideCar Public Relations. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=SideCar Public Relations|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}
. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. Curb Safe Charmer (talk) 12:00, 28 January 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Curb Safe Charmer,
- Thanks for the message and for flagging this. Not disclosing per WP:PAID was an oversight on my part, and I sincerely apologize for that lapse and any issues this caused.
- I've paused all editing and submitted an unblock request, along with a username change to COBuiltEnvEditor to reflect my intent to contribute as an individual with an interest in Colorado's built environment and urban development.
- Here are the steps I’ve taken and commitments I’m making going forward:
- Added the required disclosure using the {{paid}} template on my user page
- Using article talk pages for any COI-related suggestions
- Submitting new content through Articles for Creation
- Avoiding direct edits to mainspace content where I have a COI
- Following WP:NPOV and WP:COI and remaining transparent about affiliations
- Understanding the importance of maintaining Wikipedia’s integrity, I appreciate the opportunity to course correct. I hope to demonstrate good faith and alignment with community expectations going forward. SideCar Public Relations (talk) 21:32, 16 June 2025 (UTC)
Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "SideCar Public Relations", may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because is represents a company rather than an individual. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may ask for a change of username by completing the form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest, or you may simply create a new account for editing. Thank you. If you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization, you may request unblock and a username change. In your reasons, you must follow all these steps:
- Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement; and
- Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked; and
- Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked; and
- Provide a new username.
To do this, insert the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}}
at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked.
Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken and in use by another account. You can search to see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is still available.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text{{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}
at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. – robertsky (talk) 13:56, 28 January 2025 (UTC)

Request reason:Administrators should consider discussing any unblock with the blocking administrator (see the blocking policy).
If you ask the blocking administrator to comment on this request, please replace this template with the following:
{{unblock-un on hold | 1=blocking administrator | 2=COBuiltEnvEditor | 3=I sincerely apologize for not following Wikipedia’s username and COI policies. I’ve now disclosed my paid contributions, understand the rules, and am committed to editing in a neutral, policy-compliant way. I’m requesting a username change to COBuiltEnvEditor to reflect that I’m contributing as an individual editor with a focus on Colorado’s built environment and urban development. | 4=~~~~}}
If you accept the unblock request, replace this template with the following:
{{unblock-un reviewed | 1=COBuiltEnvEditor | reason=I sincerely apologize for not following Wikipedia’s username and COI policies. I’ve now disclosed my paid contributions, understand the rules, and am committed to editing in a neutral, policy-compliant way. I’m requesting a username change to COBuiltEnvEditor to reflect that I’m contributing as an individual editor with a focus on Colorado’s built environment and urban development. | accept=Allowing username change to requested username. Please select an option from [[Wikipedia:Changing username]] and file a request as soon as possible to avoid re-blocking. ~~~~}}
If you decline the unblock request, replace this template with the following, replacing {{subst:Decline reason here}}
with any specific rationale. If you do not edit the text after "decline=", a default reason why the request was declined will be inserted.
{{unblock-un reviewed | 1=COBuiltEnvEditor | reason=I sincerely apologize for not following Wikipedia’s username and COI policies. I’ve now disclosed my paid contributions, understand the rules, and am committed to editing in a neutral, policy-compliant way. I’m requesting a username change to COBuiltEnvEditor to reflect that I’m contributing as an individual editor with a focus on Colorado’s built environment and urban development. | decline={{subst:Decline reason here}} ~~~~}}
- I have renamed your account. A different uninvolved admin will review your unblock request. PhilKnight (talk) 06:12, 18 June 2025 (UTC)
