Page moves and titles

[edit]

Hi, I've noticed the very high volume of page moves you've made on pages relating to university units. I found your moves from my work with Arizona State University (User:Melted Brie).

I don't think some of the moves fit WP:CONCISE or MOS:&. For instance:

  • W. P. Carey School of Business → Arizona State University W. P. Carey School of Business: Most named business schools do not have the name of the university prepended to them. The school of business is only named the former.
    • I see this might be an attempt to disambiguate from the one at Johns Hopkins, but I'm not sure this was the right way to go about it without a requested move.
  • Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising → Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising: While "and" should be used in text, MOS:& cautions, But retain an ampersand when it is a legitimate part of the style of a proper noun, the title of a work, or a trademark, such as in Up & Down or AT&T.

I also think there are some cases where your reverts of other moves have resulted in a non-common name being used, such as Boston College School of Theology and Ministry. I'd appreciate some of these being brought to a discussion first so as to reduce the number of page moves that need to be reverted. Sammi Brie (she/her · t · c) 07:26, 3 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sammi Brie. Thank you for your attention on this matter. I would like to explain the underlying reasoning as follows.
1. "W. P. Carey School of Business → Arizona State University W. P. Carey School of Business" is due to the good-faith purpose of distinguishing it from the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School.
2. "Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising → Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising": multiple formal sources use "and" instead of "&". The "&" is used interchangeably and primarily for brand styling purposes in some occasions. Sources: Regulations.gov, State of California Employment Development Department, US Department of Education (p. 13), Idaho Division of Career Technical Education. ASU uses "and" (source) and "&" (source) interchangeably.
3. The Boston College School of Theology and Ministry was just renamed last year in 2024. We shall wait to see if the new name became the common name of the school before an instant move of the page. Cfls (talk) 16:02, 3 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of NUS-ISS

[edit]

Hello, Cfls,

Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username FULBERT, and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I have tagged an article that you started, NUS-ISS, for deletion, because it is a very short article that doesn't provide readers with enough context to determine who or what the subject is.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top. If the page is already deleted by the time you come across this message and you wish to retrieve the deleted material, please contact the deleting administrator.

For any further query, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|FULBERT}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

That single document is not a sufficient source to overrule the years and years of work and sourcing that have been done here. --Golbez (talk) 18:44, 12 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Golbez. I see. Thank you for your insight! Cfls (talk) 19:33, 12 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Phillips

[edit]

What's your rationale for that title move? It doesn't seem to be accurate. --SarekOfVulcan (talk) 15:59, 26 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Well-known sources (Niche, Ten Schools) use "Phillips Academy Andover" as WP:COMMONNAME for the school. I would love to hear your opinions on this. Cfls (talk) 16:04, 26 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Even in the Ten Schools system, the school uses the "Phillips Academy Andover" name instead of the "Phillips Academy" short name. Cfls (talk) 16:05, 26 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I think they may be using that as a "natural" disambiguation with Phillips Exeter, but if you check the Phillips Academy website, I don't think you'll find anyplace where they call themselves anything except Phillips Academy. Therefore, it was fine the way it was before, with Phillips Academy Andover as a redirect to the actual name. --SarekOfVulcan (talk) 16:08, 26 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, thank you for your input. I will rollback my page move. I am running the Internet Archive Bot for backing up all the citation sources for the page. I will wait the bot finishes and rollback my page move. Cfls (talk) 16:09, 26 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The Internet Archive Bot just finished its job, and I have rollbacked the page move. Thank you for your opinions and input! Cfls (talk) 16:18, 26 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I can rollback my page move if the "Phillips Academy" short name is argued here. I just waned to make the page title more reflective to the WP:COMMONNAME of the school in the real world. Please assume my WP:GF here. Cfls (talk) 16:08, 26 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I do assume you made the move in good faith, that's why I came here instead of reversing it myself. I just feel strongly that the self-identification, as is reflected by several hundred incoming links, is more accurate. --SarekOfVulcan (talk) 16:10, 26 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Yi Cui

[edit]

Hey there, I'm currently editing on mobile so I can't be of too much help in editing right now, but I had a few questions about edits you made to Yi Cui (scientist).

First, you titled one section "Biography", but isn't the whole article a biography? (I've seen someone make this argument when rolling back a similar edit before, so I wanted to bring it up even though I don't have strong feelings about it.) I just wanted to bring this up because I feel like the article as a whole is a biography, so a section titled that instead of "Life" or similar seems awkward.

Also, you removed mention of a professional honor society he is a member of even though it was referenced, when I feel like the mention is warranted and as per WP:REDYES, if the article is created, it would be good for it to have relevant incoming links already present.

I'd just like some clarification on your thought process for these edits. Thank you! BhamBoi (talk) 20:20, 27 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi BhamBoi. Thank you for the message.
1. The Biography section is mainly a brief description of the person's overall life experience. The second chapter focuses on a review of his work in scientific/engineering research and business. The original article was written like this, and I tried to make the original article more structured through effective headings.
2. The source cited about the European Academy of Engineering is a primary source. Other reliable and trustworthy sources should be used. Also, I have serious doubts whether the European Academy of Engineering is a legitimate and reputable organization. Cfls (talk) 20:56, 27 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
