Question from Mx-STEM-editor (16:15, 23 May 2025)

[edit]

Hi! I'm trying to update a page and so far I've not gotten it right. I've re-read getting started links, and I'm sorry if I missed the answer to this question there: Is setting up the page copy in my sandbox the best way for me to show you, as my mentor, the copy beforehand to determine if it needs more fixes? The last thing I want to do is post something incorrect or out of compliance with Wikipedia style guidance. TIA! --Mx-STEM-editor (talk) 16:15, 23 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

One of the best ways to create an article is to make it in your sandbox (User:Mx-STEM-editor/sandbox), and once it is done, submit it to Wikipedia:Articles for creation so someone else can approve of your work and leave helpful feedback. It is a great way to learn the ropes! GGOTCC 04:43, 24 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the help! I just submitted the draft. Because it's currently a live page, will the new draft be reviewed as a completely new Article for Creation? Mx-STEM-editor (talk) 21:03, 3 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Mx-STEM-editor Your welcome! If you submitted a draft to AfC, it will be reviewed and someone would leave feedback. Usually, the article is passed and is moved into mainspace (ie. like any other Wikipedia article), or declined with some advice. Does this awnser your question? Looking at your draft, I recomend you to read Wikipedia:Citing sources to understand how to cite sources. You can also do that with the 'cite' button on the upper left. GGOTCC 21:08, 3 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@GGOTCC, you have the magic! I'd tried and tried to get the references to style correctly in my sandbox draft to no avail. I tried again after your note and voila! All have been updated now and I commented (hopefully correctly) on the page noting so. Thanks again! Mx-STEM-editor (talk) 04:55, 4 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from JoeKugelman (01:50, 24 May 2025)

[edit]

I created my account to publish a new theory on the Roman Dodecahedron, but am not sure this is the proper venue. Can you advise? If not, can you suggest one?

Thanks, Joe Kugelman --JoeKugelman (talk) 01:50, 24 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Sadly unless your theory has been published and is discussed by independent researchers or outlets it is unlikely to be accepted as a Wikipedia article. Original research isn't accepted here, but there are plenty of venues elsewhere on the Internet, such as arXiv, stack exchange, etc. -- Reconrabbit 14:43, 24 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Riverine rabbit

[edit]

On 24 May 2025, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Riverine rabbit, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the riverine rabbit was thought to be extinct for more than 30 years? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Riverine rabbit. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Riverine rabbit), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Question from X.Fu Theory (12:46, 29 May 2025)

[edit]

Hi there! I'm new to editing Wikipedia and currently working on building my user page.

I've read some of the guidelines, and I'm trying my best to align with them. I recently added a short introduction about myself, as well as a link to a theory I'm developing (hosted externally on OSF).

Would you mind taking a quick look and letting me know if my user page looks appropriate and compliant? I really appreciate any guidance you can offer. Thank you so much! --X.Fu Theory (talk) 12:46, 29 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,
Since it does not look like you have constructed your user page to appear like an encyclopedic article, I see no problem with showcasing your work in this manner. User pages primarily serve to inform other editors about you and potential avenues for collaboration. Yours looks better the way it is now than how it was in the previous revision on 28 May. -- Reconrabbit 14:11, 29 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Larry barford jr (20:09, 31 May 2025)

[edit]

I would like to add more to my bio, --Larry barford jr (talk) 20:09, 31 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I recommend you go to this page: Talk:Larry Barford Jr. and write there what you want to add to the biography. It helps if you have a source like a news article to support the new info. I saw you tried to add "retired police officer" so I used this article from the Star Democrat to support it: https://www.stardem.com/your_voice/retired-howard-co-police-officer-larry-barford-jr-headed-to-new-jersey-motorsports-park-on/article_017800c4-c0af-11e1-9b36-e35e007aebb1.html -- Reconrabbit 20:32, 31 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Joseph Aloiv (09:44, 2 June 2025)

[edit]

For a minor, can they have a page for their self to share with friends? Im asking for my son. --Joseph Aloiv (talk) 09:44, 2 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I would advise against it. If your son really wants to share something about themselves through the Internet, there are social media designed for that. Even if your son was notable enough to have a Wikipedia article, wp:an article about yourself is not necessarily a good thing. -- Reconrabbit 14:27, 2 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Something went wrong. I need an understanding!

[edit]

So basically, I was editing a wiki page for an English female woman named Suzi Perry, and I changed the birthday to the exact day, but then I looked at the page a couple minutes ago as I'm typing this and my edit has been removed by someone else. I used a source Famous Birthdays but it didn't work. I tried The Famous People and it worked, but someone changed it back to May 1970, even though it was the correct birthday! I need help. I don't know where to start. SadieStacyLOL (talk) 02:21, 7 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Having an edit removed can be frustrating but in this case it is to protect the accuracy of a page about a living person. Famous Birthdays is a blacklisted website because it has no editorial oversight and has been used for spam. It is not clear if The Famous People has any similar editorial team. The best place to get an accurate birthday from someone is their own social media usually if it is not in a biography somewhere. So, if you find something on Suzi Perry's instagram or X profile where she celebrates her birthday, that could be used as a source. I hope this helps you. -- Reconrabbit 16:59, 7 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Restakk (11:27, 7 June 2025)

[edit]

Hello. I have noticed an omission in a Wikipedia page for the PDSA.org.uk. I think it is important to add some relevant information found on their webpage. People MUST be receiving certain benefits plus give a donation to have treatment for pets. --Restakk (talk) 11:27, 7 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! The People's Dispensary for Sick Animals page on Wikipedia should only include relevant information about the organisation that has been published by independent sources. Thus unless these certain benefits and donation requirements have been described by, say, BBC News, this information would be inappropriate to include. People looking for this specific information would do much better to look on the actual PDSA.org.uk website. -- Reconrabbit 17:01, 7 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Bel Belen Burns (23:35, 7 June 2025)

Hello. Coco Gauff's page says this: She reached her first major final in women's doubles at the 2021 US Open and reached her first major singles final at the 2022 French Open. What do you want to add that is missing? -- Reconrabbit 23:44, 7 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from SadieStacyLOL on Vere Langford Oliver (01:08, 9 June 2025)

[edit]

I need help finding sources, and I can't find legal sources on Wikipedia, and I think it's stupid. Why can't Wikipedia let us use every source on the web? --SadieStacyLOL (talk) 01:08, 9 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@SadieStacyLOL, ther have been hundreds if not thousands of discussions on Wikipedia to decide if certain websites can be used or not. Genealogy sites have to do a lot of work to be correct, and the ones that just let anyone say they are related to someone else are considered unreliable here. I found the discussion where editors decided that Geni.com could not be used: Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard/Archive 465#RfC: Geni.com, MedLands, genealogy.eu I don't know what good sites are out there besides newspapers.com and NewspaperArchive.com -- Reconrabbit 12:25, 9 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

With Secretary of State Georgia has put me as owner.
What do you need to change it? Asherryo (talk) 18:20, 9 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
A newspaper article, state register, press release, or anything published that says you're the owner. I looked up Georgia Open Records and couldn't find anything. This site is always going to be slower than the news so if there's nothing published you will have to wait or have someone write a short notice some-where. -- Reconrabbit 18:38, 9 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Rhg2 (23:20, 12 June 2025)

[edit]

Hello,

I thought I'd try to make a Wikipedia page for the (what I think is interesting) story of Untether AI (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Untether_AI). I'm very new to Wikipedia and just getting used to how things work and had missed how careful I needed to be with citations at first. So after my first submission came back because of improper citations, I tried adding better citations (like an IEEE symposium). When that came back, I thought I'd be more careful about titles, publishers and names (i.e. I found I can use first2 and last2 to name a second author). So now I think I've got some pretty good independent sources, and I think I've got the format in pretty good shape. But still the citations aren't up to the mark. I saw there was a button for my "mentor", so I thought I'd try asking you for help. Would you have any suggestions as to some next steps?

Thanks in advance. --Rhg2 (talk) 23:20, 12 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Thanks for reaching out. I believe the problem you are running into is that much of the literature used is considered by the reviewers as not being independent of the company. I'd also say that it lacks some context, especially as to what their product launch actually was. If I was reviewing, I would consider accepting this draft rather than declining it, especially since the coverage by Betakit and EE Times appears to be substantial. The trouble is that you're using sources like Business Wire (Yahoo Finance is just a reprint of that same Business Wire story) and an IEEE presentation by people who are employed by Untether AI, when there are better sources out there, including a wealth that have been published on AMD's acquisition of the company. Here's something from Reuters for example back when they launched the 240 Slim: https://www.reuters.com/technology/artificial-intelligence/startup-untether-launches-ai-chips-2024-10-28/ that provides a good deal of context around the chips. -- Reconrabbit 00:21, 13 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
