Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Israel

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Israel. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion
Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
  1. Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
  2. You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Israel|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
Removing a closed AfD discussion
Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
Other types of discussions
You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Israel. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
Further information
For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

This list is also part of the larger list of deletion debates related to Middle East.

Galil cheese (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)
(Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL)

Has all of the same issues as with Shifra Cheese (see here:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Shifra_cheese), which was created by the same editor. Truthnope (talk) 03:37, 24 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Shifra cheese (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)
(Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL)

All seven references are used simultaneously for every section. Verifiability for these claims is questionable. No page numbers are given for any of these books. The two links given are dead and cannot be recovered from the wayback machine.

Furthermore, the citations for the books seem off. For example, there is a Daniel Rogov who writes guides on Israeli wine, and there was a version published in 2005, but the title The Ultimate Guide to Israeli Wines isn't used (there is a The Ultimate Rogov's Guide to Israeli Wines from 2011) and they seem to be published by Toby Press, not Gefen Publishing House. There is also a book called "The New Middle Eastern Vegetarian: Modern Recipes from Veggiestan", but the author is listed as Sally Butcher, not Gil Atlas. I cannot find the Schreiber or Lewin books anywhere. Only the Solomonov and Cook reference has no apparent flaw. If anybody can find a few of these sources (perhaps they're in Hebrew), I'll withdraw this nomination, but as is, the article appears to be built on almost nothing. Israeli feta (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)
(Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL)

There are many problems with the references. For one, no page numbers are given. I cannot find the books "Cheese from the Land of Milk and Honey: A Guide to Israeli Cheese". I also can't find "Food in Israel: A Mediterranean Journey." or "The Secret Life of Cheese: The Complete Guide to Cheese and Cheese-Making in Israel", although the authors exist (Mayer-Chissick appears to be an Israeli author and is listed by the National Library of Israel (https://www.nli.org.il/en/a-topic/987007462694605171) but this particular book is not mentioned). The source by Gur exists (and can be found here https://archive.org/details/bookofnewisraeli0000gurj/page/220/mode/2up?q=feta) and has a section on cheese but does not mention Israeli feta. The same is true for the source by Nathan (https://archive.org/details/foodsofisraeltod0000nath/page/242/mode/2up) which is cited for a claim about bourekas, ziva, and borek, but does not mention any of these dishes, at least from a quick search. As such, it appears difficult to verify any of these claims, unless somebody can provide page numbers. ISBNs would also help.

The creator of this article also created the article Shifra cheese, which shares many of the same issues and which I also nominated for deletion (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Shifra_cheese). Truthnope (talk) 02:08, 24 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Doesn’t appear to meet WP:GNG. None of the online sources give any information.

  • Merge or keep: I am the article "creator", I spun this out of the big long article about Reinhard Gehlen so if it doesn't meet notability criteria then some of the information should go back there so that it doesn't link to nothing. Like nom says, the sources were hard or not possible to access online, I could really only see primary sources and the existence of the books, but I wasn't able to check all of the contents. As most of it was written by someone else and cited I trusted what appeared to be good citations. I would love someone with access to the books to confirm them for me (or deny, that would be useful too) Moritoriko (talk) 14:30, 23 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Speedy Keep article is VERY well sourced, references do not have to be online. Theroadislong (talk) 21:50, 23 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Keep: I agree that references don't have to be online. After further research I have decided to withdraw my nomination because the Ziv-Tal book looks good although I think the title is wrong. It's The Maskirovka of Max & Moritz. I do have concern about The secret war against the Jews source. Kirkus Reviews describes it as a conspiracy book with little hard evidence and sensationalized and misleading. But the Ziv Tal source is enough for me. Orlando Davis (talk) 04:06, 24 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. No lack of references by NEXIST. There is too much reliance on a single reference. Nominator should have added a warning template, not nominated for deletion!!! Unnecessary nominations waste precious community resources. gidonb (talk) 04:01, 24 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Operations attributed to Israel in Iran (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)
(Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL)

Non-notable article with very biased language such as: "Israel has rarely been held accountable for its destructive actions."

Nothing more than a list of incidents/operations.

Contains information from other articles such as Assassinations of Iranian nuclear scientists and mentions a 2007 explosion at Parchin while information is included on Parchin's article, so why do we need it here? And attribution to Israel to attacks or incidents in Iran is reported all the time by the Iranian government. Wouldn't it make more sense to have an article on actual Israeli operations in Iran in the wider Iran-Israel proxy conflict?

Was copied from the Farsi Wikipedia. Creator has a long history of copying articles from this Wikipedia and creating the English version. I suspect the Farsi Wikipedia of having NPOV issues with the articles related to Iran and Israel that this creator. Not to mention that this article is under the category of Zionist political violence which is not supported by information in this article. WikiCleanerMan (talk) 16:17, 21 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Delete as a FORK — both POV and REDUNDANT — of Iran–Israel proxy conflict#Assassinations, cyberwarfare and sabotage. As nom mentioned, the tone is highly non-encyclopedic. More importantly, the relevant content is adequately covered in Iran–Israel proxy conflict.
Note that the AfDd list is considerably broader and includes, for example, a terrorism incident in Iran where Iranian authorities blamed Israel, Israel denied involvement, and ISIS claimed responsibility. Such cases do not belong in a table about Iran–Israel operations. Such an accusation can be mentioned in the body of the relevant article. gidonb (talk) 23:52, 21 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose The article is important because When something bad happens, Iran blames Israel Like: Kerman Bombings Farcazo (talk) 16:09, 22 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Your vote doesn't address the issues with the article nor explain any necessity. Any information like this can be just on the respective articles like the one linked for some reason externally, which is already mentioned on that article. WikiCleanerMan (talk) 22:01, 22 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Non-notable article. No such definition of non-political relations is defined. All that is here is related to political relations, i.e. bilateral relations. Copied from the Farsi Wikipedia article, which over there no definition of what non-political relations are between two nations.

Some information is already on the main relations article. Suggest deleting this page and should any info is worth keeping be moved over to the main article.

Practically comes off as a fork of the main article. WikiCleanerMan (talk) 14:48, 21 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment 1 No such definition of non-political relations - First, for a descriptive title its definition is not required. Second, there is definition, right from dictionary: "non-political" means "not political" --Altenmann >talk 20:01, 21 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment 2 comes off as a fork - please list what exactly content is forked. "Some" is usually OK. --Altenmann >talk 20:01, 21 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment 3 All that is here is related to political - Not true. Individual business relations are non-political relations. State regulation of business between two countries may probably classified as political relations, but not exactly, because it affects the possibility of a business to do business in another state. Tariffs will most probably be classified as international relations. --Altenmann >talk 20:01, 21 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Selective merge to Iran–Israel relations#Business and other sections of that main article as relevant. Some of the items here are political-related, others seem fairly minor and don't need to be included. Best to add content to the main article and do a section split when appropriate rather than a separate page like this. Also please learn to use italics and quotation marks properly; they're not in the Farsi article so I'm confused why they are used this way... Reywas92Talk 21:15, 22 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Selective merge and subsequent split of Iran–Israel business relations per WP:Summary style. --Altenmann >talk 22:23, 22 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

This seems to be a bit of WP:SYNTH, since there is no mention of the term in all but one of the sources. Searches did not turn up enough in-depth coverage from independent, reliable sources to support meeting WP:GNG. Onel5969 TT me 02:08, 20 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
