This page is a place to list foreign language articles on the English Wikipedia, to see if they can be translated before they are listed on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. If someone speaks the language the article is written in and can state that it is not worth translating, the item should be moved to AfD or tagged with {{prod}}.

If the article is a mere copy of (all or part of) an article in a foreign-language Wikipedia, it can just be tagged with {{db-foreign}} to get added to Wikipedia:Candidates for speedy deletion: we want to discourage people who cut articles from one Wikipedia and paste to another without translating. If the intent is to ask for a translation of an article from a foreign-language Wikipedia, the correct place to do that is Wikipedia:Translation. As an alternative, you can leave a message on the contributing users talk-page using the templates from Wikipedia:Pages needing translation into English/Templates for user talk pages or using {{UE}}.

Sometimes, legitimate articles are replaced by foreign-language content. In this case, the last English-language version should be restored from the history.

If an article has been listed here for two weeks and is still untranslated, it should be moved to AfD. When moving items to AfD, the boilerplate text on the article should be changed from {{notenglish}} to {{subst:afd}} and the other deletion steps should be carried out.

When listing a page here, you might want to find the Wikipedia:Embassy or Ambassador member of the Wikipedia that relates to the language the article is in and invite them to move the page to their own Wikipedia. If you don't even know what language the article is in you could use Language recognition chart and if that fails, some language recognition web site, such as xrce, or languid.cantbedone.org to find out. Please leave a note on this page if you do this to prevent duplication of messages. If you have come here from another Wikipedia, please note on this page what you think should be done with the article.

Please check for copyvio before listing here. (Articles which meet the criteria for CSD G12 can be speedily deleted with {{db-copyvio}}, others copyvios should be listed on WP:CP.) If you can tell what language an article is written in, that might help. Also consider posting the first line or so.

The corresponding article in the Spanish Wikipedia goes back to 24 Dec 2006. However, the Spanish Wiki article is radically different. The Spanish wiki article consists of a brief summary of the group and a list of the group's 4 albums (with the lists of songs). The English Wiki article (but in Spanish) presently reads like the story of the group. From a quick reading it seems well written, maybe like a newspaper feature article or magazine article. Regarding notability, Google returned lots of (208,000) hits on lyrics, fan clubs, and online sales of the group's albums (amazon, yahoo, etc.). The only 'news' item i found was http://www.miaminewtimes.com/2004-12-02/music/voz-veis/ . But there may be more. Searching 'Google News' returned nothing. But maybe that doesn't include Spanish language media. Searching using the Span text returned only this Wiki article (i thought maybe the text had been copied and pasted and might be a copyright violation, and it might be, but Google didn't find it on the web). I think this one is spam, and so is Vera Gafron, the "starmodel and campaign model from Germany`s fashion designer Torsten Amft" - both pages were created and repeatedly modified by a single user, whose only contributions are to these two pages, Amft a spam page about the label by this designer, a single self-promo addition to The HistoryFashion design, and adding Vera Gafron to the List of tall women. The subject may not pass notability standards. The article very briefly deals with the band, band members, and lists the songs on its upcoming CD. The song titles are also in Spanish. The band was formed in June 2007 by five band members who are 14 year old students. The website (on blog.com), also all in Spanish, says they are in preparations to release their first CD album (they haven't released an album previously). The site has a total of 6 comments. The article doesn't exist in the Spanish Wikipedia, nor does there seem to be any mention of the group there. Also, Previously this article was about an album "Love in the Wind" by another artist and has a link from the artist's article Aeoliah. At this point in the edit history http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Love_in_the_Wind&diff=164777827&oldid=114514617 the original content was deleted and the Spanish content was inserted. Very interesting item. It's a bio about a new age musician, which was completely overwritten by Spanish-language text. The original English text has been restored, so it has no further involvement with this page. There is no non-English in the article at all. The Spanish text was about a non-notable band, so it does not belong on en:Wikipedia at all. I don't know what the policies are on sp:Wikipedia. That raises the question, though. Should it be flagged as a non-notable bio? There's a policy for bands, but I don't think there's a policy for individual musicians. Hmmm... Anybody have any thoughts? Notability for musicians (individuals & bands/groups) is addressed in WP:MUSIC. The Spanish language content was never subject to Sp Wiki policy because the content never existed in the Sp Wiki. A quick peek indicated that Sp Wiki policy is similar to En Wiki policy. Also, it definitely doesn't allow 'promotional' or 'vanity' articles.
