Please read Wikipedia:Cleanup process for instructions on maintaining this page. There may be more suitable pages for requests, see the resources for collaboration box on the right.

For articles that just need wikification, you should use the wikify template. See Category:Articles that need to be wikified for articles that need wikifying.

If an article needs further cleaning up, add cleanup to the top of the article. To see articles with this tag added, see Category:Cleanup

Some editors prefer that helpers work on leftovers and older articles, just to deal with them and get them out of the way. See the cleanup calendar for requests from previous months. But either preference, new or old; all help is appreciated. If you have a cleanup routine, add your name and your routine preferences (how often, old/new articles, what subjects, etc ) to the cleanup routine list.

List of 30,000 bits of wiki syntax for cleanup.

At the newly created Wiki Syntax Project I've just added around 20,000 items of malformed wiki syntax (made up of 140 items per page broken down into 140 sub-pages, additional to which there are another 10,000 top-up items I'll add next week). This includes malformed wiki square brackets (not closed or opened properly), malformed ordinary brackets (not actually a wiki syntax, just grammatically wrong), malformed headings, malformed bold or italics quotes (usually that haven't been closed at the end of the line), and malformed curly brace constructs. There are simply far too many items for just one person to do - so I am posting to Cleanup asking for help. For each item there is a link to the article that has the problem, a description of the problem (the type of unclosed or unopened syntax), and the beginning of the line that has the problem (so all the problems should hopefully be easy to locate). This second and more complete run follows on from a very successful first run (in which 68 people fixed 1500 brackets in under 4 days). This second run is significantly larger (around 20 times the size), as it includes reports of more problems, plus it's for the whole Wikipedia (the previous run covered less than half of all articles, and focussed mostly on one type of problem - i.e. square brackets). -- Nickj 03:52, 6 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Does anybody peruse the category to see which articles are listed there and actually do any cleaning of them? RickK 20:37, Nov 5, 2004 (UTC)
Don't know. But even if no one was, we should be trying to get people there, right? Mgm|(talk) 22:41, Nov 5, 2004 (UTC)

  • Justin Yifu Lin Copyvio? VFD?
  • Tony Knowles (politician) I'm not sure if I should be putting this problem on this page, but someone put a copyvio notice on this article and moved the content to a temporary page almost three months ago. • Category:Manitoba politicians: Minor point: many biographies (110/260?) in this category don't mention the person's date or year of birth. -- User:Docu
    • As the person who created most of these biographies, I can tell you that the dobs were not always available. I included this information wherever possible, and left it pending otherwise.
    • I'd appreciate it if someone (or some people) would fill in the birthdates for the individual biographies, but this information isn't always easy to obtain -- besides which, it doesn't really have anything to do with the category page itself. I've removed the cleanup notice for these reasons, though I wouldn't object to a request for information notice being raised on this subject. CJCurrie 00:41, 29 Oct 2004 (UTC)
      • I agree that the "cleanup" notice on the category was not ideal, but might have been the easiest solution. Maybe a list of the biographies that could use the additional information is better. I added the category as it's one of the five categories with the most articles where I couldn't find the information for People by year. This is really minor, but, as most of them are contemporaries and candidates in elections, I would have thought the year of birth may be easily available. Naturally the information needing to be published about a candidate varies from one country to another and, as you already researched the individuals, we might directly remove the category from Cleanup. -- User:Docu
  • List_of_stations_of_the_Paris_M%E9tro The stations, except a few, shouldn't have their own page. Isn't there a map of the Paris Metro? Peter O. (Talk)
    • The talk page has a big discussion about this problem from an old VfD. Someone went in and fired off pages for all of them, now they sit stagnant. Half a year ago there was much talk, but nothing was done - the VfD essentially didn't go through. If the deletion call succeeded, you'd probably end up with something like the TTC subway, which I prefer, personally - stations are listed on a page for their line, rather than a page for every station. The other extreme is the London Underground approach. The difference between the Paris and London pages, of course, is that there were enough Londoners (and there was possibly enough history) to flesh out a good number of the London station pages... Any volunteers for Paris? Krupo

List of 1500 malformed wiki brackets for cleanup

I've got a list of wiki pages with malformed syntax - in particular malformed wiki brackets (not closed or opened properly). At first I tried fixing these pages myself, but quickly realised that there were far too many for just one person to do - so I am posting to Cleanup asking for help. For each item there is a link to the article that has the problem, a description of the problem (the type of mismatched brackets), and the beginning of the line that has the problem (so all the problems should hopefully be easy to locate). -- Nickj 00:56, 28 Oct 2004 (UTC)

      • Much improved now. There's still the problem that we explicitly give one POV (killing a village of men, women, and children is a good tactical move that saves valuable German lives, which are the ones that really count) without explicitly giving the other (the lives of French children are at least as valuable as those of Nazi soldiers, and soldiers killing unarmed civilian children is a bad thing.) - Nunh-huh 18:37, 29 Oct 2004 (UTC)
