Pronunciation

[edit]

Could someone add a pronunciation for J. D. Vance’s name? Not sure how it’s said exactly.Washi189 05:11, 28 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Change "He is of Scots-Irish descent" in light of the news that no connection to Northern Ireland was discovered in recent genealogical research commissioned by the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP). 68.33.93.196 (talk) 14:11, 25 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Scots-Irish ancestry claim

[edit]

"DUP-commissioned report fails to find a link between Donald Trump’s vice-president — a self-declared Scots-Irish — and Ireland" https://www.thetimes.com/article/d1788dd7-da0c-4954-b838-716a8ad67959 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 136.47.177.136 (talk) 14:27, 25 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

For a quicker response on such requests, one should ask that 'old text' be changed to 'new text', rather than basically saying 'here's a source so change it'. I've moved a sentence about Vance's genealogical descent to the end of the paragraph, noting his claim as opposed to the DUP not finding a link to Ireland. —ADavidB 08:45, 27 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Scots-Irish Ancestry Misconception

[edit]

Not finding evidence of Irish descent doesn't disprove that he is scots irish. The whole idea of being scots irish is that they are Scottish colonists who moved to Northern Ireland, then from there moved to America. The sentence referring to this then should be deleted entirely. Pajamahop (talk) 19:01, 6 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

But the finding isn't about Irish descent, its specifically about the claim to be Scots Irish... Maybe you don't understand who the Democratic Unionist Party are? Horse Eye's Back (talk) 15:05, 7 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It's rather that the DUP doesn't understand what Scotch-Irish Americans are. Hi! (talk) 19:48, 7 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Semicolon

[edit]

comma per MOS:BIRTHNAME. Page currently says "James David Vance (born James Donald Bowman;[a] August 2, 1984" a comma should be used not semicolon per MOS: BIRTHNAME GloryToCalifornia (talk) 16:32, 12 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The article has a comma there as of June 17. —ADavidB 04:32, 17 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
