- Do a search on Google or your preferred search engine for the subject of the Wikipedia article that you want to create a citation for.
- Find a website that supports the claim you are trying to find a citation for.
- In a new tab/window, go to the citation generator, click on the 'An arbitrary website' bubble, and fill out as many fields as you can about the website you just found.
- Click the 'Get reference wiki text' button.
- Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text (it will be something like
<ref> {{cite web | .... }}</ref>
, copy the whole thing). - In the Wikipedia article, after the claim you found a citation for, paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) the text you copied.
- If the article does not have a References or Notes section (or the like), add this to the bottom of the page, but above the External Links section and the categories:
==References== {{Reflist}}
Hi Lafi90! I noticed your contributions and wanted to welcome you to the Wikipedia community. I hope you like it here and decide to stay.
The rule that affects you most as a new or IP editor is the prohibition on making any edit related to the Arab–Israel conflict, which includes discussing articles on talk pages, unless you are logged into an account that is at least 30 days old and has made at least 500 edits.
This prohibition is broadly construed, so it includes edits such as adding the reaction of a public figure concerning the conflict to their article or noting the position of a company or organization as it relates to the conflict.
The exception to this rule is that you may request a specific change to an article on the talk page of that article or at this page. Please ensure that your requested edit complies with our neutral point of view and reliable sourcing policies, and if the edit is about a living person our policies on biographies of living people as well.
Any edits you make contrary to these rules are likely to be reverted, and repeated violations can lead to you being blocked from editing. As you get started, you may find this short tutorial helpful:

Please help me with...
a few questions.
1. Is there a handy way to know what I'm qualified to partake in?
2. With regards to my usage of Wikipedia; the 30 days/500 edits, is that wikipedia exclusive, like en.wiki separate from is.wiki?
3. Do those expire?
Thanks! Lafi90 (talk) 03:32, 16 June 2025 (UTC)
- With a few exceptions (protected pages) any editor can edit anything. We are not concerned with your qualifications. Even experts cannot make edits based solely on their own authority. All edits need to be based on a published source. Each separate language project applies user rights separately, so extended confirmed rights are granted on English Wikipedia after 30 days and 500 edits, but that would not affect rights on other projects. No, user rights do not expire. The admins might remove a user right under certain circumstances, but that's quite rare. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 03:42, 16 June 2025 (UTC)
- I should have read more of your page to get more context. There is a list of contentious topics here: WP:Contentious topics#List of contentious topics. Most of them are somewhat obvious and each one has some history you can choose to investigate if you don't see why editing is restricted. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 03:58, 16 June 2025 (UTC)
