    Requests likely to be rejected

    Situation Solution
Obvious, disruptive sock puppet Block, no checkuser needed
Disruptive "throwaway" account used only for a few edits Block, no checkuser needed
Checkuser on yourself to "prove your innocence" Such requests are rarely accepted, please do not ask
Related to ongoing arbitration case Request checkuser on the arbitration case pages
Vote fraud, ongoing vote Wait until vote closes before listing, or post at Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets

You want access to the checkuser tool yourself Contact the Arbitration Committee, but such access is granted rarely

    When submitting a request

    • If submitting a new case subpage, use the inputbox below; if adding to an existing case subpage, see WP:RFCU/P#Repeat requests.
    • Choose the code letter that best fits your request. Provide evidence such as diff links as required or requested. Note that some code letters inherently require specific evidence.
    • When listing suspected accounts or IP addresses, use the {{checkuser}} or {{checkip}} templates. Please do not use this template in a section header.
    • You may add your request to the top of the #Outstanding requests section, by adding {{Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/CASENAMEHERE}}. If you do not, clerks should check for pages in Category:Checkuser requests to be listed and will do this for you.
    • Sign your request.

Crafty Butcher is banned and is a sock of User:Bell V Bell, Crafty Butcher added the following lines to the John Ellis article [1] which mentions Victor Tsigal. He also created the Victor Tsigal article with a hoax reference to John Ellis [2].

User:Victor Tsigal has so far made only 1 edit [3], non vandalism but I believe this account may be used in future for this purpose when its new user status has expired.

User:Brisk69 has made only 3 edits so far, again non vandal [4] but the only link between the 3 articles, especially John Ellis (Irish politician) and City of Kingston are that they recently appeared in my recent contributions list. This user has recently created many impersonator accounts of me and has been wikistalking me. I believe these are all socks of the same banned user. Any chance someone might look at this? It's been two weeks. Thanks, Snappy (talk) 06:03, 28 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/Bell V Bell is pertinent. There are two major ranges here and several smaller ones, mostly too big to range block, but I did one range block for two weeks.

    [5], [6], [7], [8], [9]

A persistent vandal has been creating numerous accounts which are deliberately similar to my username, then editing and vandalising articles which I have recently edited. I have reported these accounts and they have been banned by WP:UAA but still it keeps coming back. Could the checkuser investigate whether the series of accounts are on a common IP range and what, if any collateral damage there would be to rangeblock it. Thanks for that Nishkid64, I didn't realise it was that saddo wikipéire, its been quite prolific in sock creation. One question, when you say IP blocked as well, does that mean a range block and does this mean, it will be prevented from creating any more socks (at least in this range) ? Snappy56 (talk) 05:42, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I only blocked his current IPs. I dpn't consider a rangeblock to be feasible at the moment. Nishkid64 (Make articles, not wikidrama) 05:44, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not positive this is the right place to post this, but after years of disinterest in contributing because of an initial sour, unfair experience contributing to Depleted_uranium, I have tried logging back in to find my user is still showing as a suspected "sockpuppet", based on the suspicions of someone- User:TDC who seemed to accuse anyone he disagreed with on the subject of DU of being a sockpuppet, and someone who is long since banned. I'm sure there was no evidence because it was not true, but IP addresses or anything else was not enough, and there was no clear route to resolve the issue with anyone else, so I walked away from wikipedia completely until now. My question is, how to clear this, or do people just use a new username on wikipedia if they get erroneous claims which can never be cleared? My user is part of a long list of "suspects" towards the bottom of this page. It's was very hard for me to take Wikipedia seriously after User:TDC's persistent and wildly unfair accusations of being a fraud- a fairly terrible experience, and the way, regardless if anyone really was a sockpuppet, he simply invalidated debate, preferring instead to focus on the credibility of anyone who he disagreed with. IP/A

    Requests for IP check

    • Vandal and attack accounts may be listed here for the purpose of identifying and blocking the underlying IP address or open proxy. Requests to confirm sockpuppets of known users should be listed in the sockpuppet section above.
    • If you already know the IP address of the suspected open proxy, list it at Wikipedia:Open Proxies instead.
    • Use === Subsections ===; do not create subpages.
    • List user names using the {{checkuser|username}} template. Add new reports to the top of the section.
    • Requests may be acted on or declined according to the discretion of the checkuser admins. Responses will be noted here. Specific evidence of abuse in the form of diffs may be required so as to avoid the impression of fishing for evidence.
    • Answered requests will be moved to Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/IP check/Archive for 7 days, after which they will be deleted. No separate archive (other than the page history) will be maintained.

    Non-compliant requests

    NC

Requests that do not follow the instructions at the top of the page will be moved here. Common reasons for noncompliance include:

    • Did not cite a code letter, or cite more than one code letter.
    • Did not cite any supporting diffs if the code letter requires diffs.
    • Included IP addresses.

The specific deficiencies may be noted with Additional information needed. Cases which are corrected may be moved back to the pending section. Cases which are not corrected will be deleted after 3 days.

Please note that meeting these three criteria does not ensure that your check will be run. The checkusers retain final discretion over all cases.
